I found a 03 malibu with an 3100 v6 and iv herd that the 2.2 manual transmission will match up and i would love to have that it in my z24 so is it possible, im just curious about how I would do the wiring, can anyone help?
I believe you need a bell housing from a 660 with a manual trans. I do not think the bell housing will bolt to the engine. Also I would use a 3400 or 3500 or 3400 with a 3500. A lot more power same amount of work.
On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.
Trans will bolt up.
Wiring and fabing up mounts... thats the hard part.

I thought it could be done. So if anyone has a forum for this swap or one for the 3400 -3500 swap or any info about the wiring, then post it here please!

It can't be done at all.
Not unless you do at least a LITTLE research first. When/if you find it, you'll know why I know you didn't even look.

Better off getting a second gen In my opinion if you want a v6.

Iv been looking at a few threes for the 3400 and the 3500

They already came with v6s, so a 3400 or 3500 his basically a direct swap. I have a 2nd gen with a 3400. The person also stated they wanted to do a 3100 which is makes like 20hp more than a 3rd gen with a 2.4L. It just my opinion, I don't see a justification is swapping to something that is a lot more work to do and time when he could easy swap to a 2.4l or eco and have close to the same power and probably half as many miles. 3100 is kind of outdated and at the bottom of the 660 gen 3 engines. You can get a 3500 for $80 from u pull its near me and have over twice the power of a 3100.
It is his choice everyone has their own opinions and does there own things.

All 2000+ 3100 were 170hp, but yea a ton of work for only 20 hp. He could always do a 3400/3500 top end swap. I wonder if theres a sticky somewhere with lots of info about this stuff ????????????????
3400 swap info would be the same and I believe there is a stick, 3100 and 3400 use the same block and share parts/ sensors.

Ok I got it I already have a 2.4 the 3100 was just handy, but now that i see the horsepower on that I'm reconsidering, so dose anyine have a forum for the wiring?

Why would one do the swapping in a 2nd gen, rather than just do a top end swap on a 3.1? And since when does the 3500 have 2x the power of a 3100? I didn't know the 3500's were coming in over 300hp form.
Don't you need an external crank trigger to 3500 a 2nd gen?

i know most of you are apposed to doing this, but isnt the pcm the same in a 03 Malibu i have one and it looks to be the same, why couldn't you just do the swap (using the 2.2 transmission) and then plug the engine harness into the (Malibu) dash harness then plug that into the pcm?

i didn't mean pcm sorry i just meant the computer in the car that the dash and floor harness plug into.
oh yea the wiring between a 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder are the same they just cut the extra wires for the 4 cylinders out
No one understands what i mean haha I want to run the v6 engine harness, dash harness and the chassis computer from the v6 I would use the floor harness from the cav

Can't swap a 3.1 top end with a 3500, you can only swap a 3.1 with a 3400 as the 3500 doesn't match up correctly. Also crack triggers are cheap. You can get them from wot-tech.com . 3500 in second gens make around 240whp with a good tune i believe. Also 2nd gens already have v6s so half the work is done for you.
On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.
Dude, seriously. The guys on 60degree and v6z24 are a lot more sensible.
We all know that the top end swap on the 3.1 is the large port 3100 or 3400 heads. The 3500 heads will match up to the 3.1, but the valves are too big for the cylinders. We know this already. WOT-tech doesn't have crank triggers listed on their site, i thought they'd sold out of what they had? But I'm still curious as to how your 3500 is coming out with twice the power of the 3100, even with stated tune? Even with 80 for the engine, 100 for the tune and whatever for the crank trigger (certainly not just a "drop-in" solution)
I'm not against 2nd gen's at all. I like them (actually, i like the PH1 better than the PH2 which makes me feel different). But why, if he's got to go to all this trouble on the swap, would he be better off than using the car that he already has, and wants to swap?
And it still boils down to this. OP has not yet searched the forums, or looked around for the info he wants, or he'd have found it already.

I agree. If anything, it would be much easier and cheaper to use a 3rd gen engine instead of swapping the actual car to use an engine that isn't all that great. If he had a 3400 or 3500, and the 3rd gen shell was junk, then
maybe it would be more worthwhile to pick up a 2nd gen shell to swap, but in this case, he doesn't have a 3400 or 3500. Granted, it is easier to swap a 60dV6 into a 2nd gen, but that would be putting the cart before the horse here.
.
Only thing about putting the v6 in my 3rd gen was the wiring and the bottom dog bone mount. Besides them two things I literally bolted the engine and tranny into the car like it was meant to be.

this is the funniest post i have seen on an engine swap in months
all these topics have been brought up and if you search theres even a sticky that breaks down all the stuff people have done and run into
rob your a moron why would you buy a second gen just to do the swap. 1st off you know how hard it is to find a nice 2nd gen there no exactly a dime a dozen liken an 05 j body anymore and when you have a car why wouldn't you use it. keep your terrible advise in you own head insted of trying to plant it in others
jacob its not a hard swap i recommend getting the custom made v6 mounts to make your life easier
