Sooooo, I would assume that no .on here has done this before, I am attempting to use a cobalt ss ingalls dampner for a L61 setup.
Comments? I am already looking into it and have the dampner, looking for input, if I cannot make it work up top might use in place of the dogbone possibly
They have been known to fail a lot on the cobalts, most all cobalts call them crap, and use poly mounts...
They do help, when they work, but you actually have metal on metal, with the design, allowing a lot of engine noise to the frame... One bracket on the engine, one on the frame, with the dampener inbetween, it is a direct metal connection...

Hello Aaron,
So what if I used poly bushings to mount it????
I may add it instead of pulling the motor mounts, added to just to reduce the movement of the engine, I have tried solid mounts and they are not for me as I like to drive the car every once and a while, too much vibration for me... lol
How would you use it? Also I will not be using the mounts that came with it, rather fabbing some up either way I go.
Thanks for the input.
I guess my car must be slow cause I run stock mounts. I must not have enough power to require aftermarket mounts.
Brad, I think that I might just add it to the front of the engine to reduce movement. It will look cool and I will have to beef up the upper rad support though. I will post pictures when I start.
I like torque dampers. That said, I don't think we need it in this application. With all poly mounts you would be hard pressed to get enough traction with anything but wrinkle wall slicks to see the real benefit of the damper. Remember that it is a damper, so it only slows the movement of the engine and its resistance to movement is based directly on the speed of the movement. Now if we had a rwd or awd torque monster that we wanted to daily drive a damper would be perfect, or if we werent daily driving we would use chain or a solid tie rod in its place to help constrain engine movement.
Now if you were on stock mounts, the damper would do something. BUT I think that it would cause a funny clutch feel based on the velocity sensing of the damper.

I am on stock mounts. Also I don't have to worry about the clutch as I am auto. I think I am going to try it.
It should work out ok for you then. My concern i the holes tearing out of the upper rad support if you go there. I would weld an 1/8 plate to the rad support just to prevent tearout.

Yep. Thinking about making a bolt in upper radsupport bigger than 1/8th.
I figured you were going to bolt in. But I'd be a bit nervous about the bolt holes becoming elongated. Could end up fine though.

May use tool steel for this or an insert...
never heard of a ingall, but from other responses I think I know what it is.
I have all stiff mounts and the motor hardly moves.
I will never have a J without some kind of stiff mounts. My 97 sunfire DD has a RK upper insert.
I sort of look at it like if the vibes (which are not that bad), but are more on auto's is too much for you then you shouldn't be modding.

Thats the most retarded thing that i have ever heard, so because I do not want my fiberglassed dash vibrating up and down, I should not mod my car? lol.... Too much

I made my comment off of this comment

Which says something totally different than what you just said about your fiberglass dash.
Still I think the fiberglass dash excuse is weak, but I could go with it.

Too much vibration of the dash. Not conflicting statements. I don't think that not wanting solid mounts constitutes someone that should not mod a car. Were you not the one asking if the company I work for would sponsor or cut you a discount on plugs? Just asking don't remember the attitude in the pm that's all. This started over your opinion..

Yes that was me in PM, ut that has nothing to do with this post.
You will find I will call things the way I see it on anyone.
I will still stand behind my post.
If someone wants to complain about solid mounts being to rough, too much vibes then yes maybe you should not be modding.
Sort of like saying I want my car to handle like it is on rails, but I want the smoothest ride possible. You can go so far, but at some point you are crossing a line.

Lol ok. Agree to disagree.
