I know the knock sensors are diff on 96 LD9 vs a 00 LD9. My question is are they the same as far as the ECU is concerned? I know they are physically diff sizes and have diff plugs, but do they run on the same voltage and act the same? Meaning can I simply splice in one another's harness/plug to use them rather than retapping the block? I'm using a 96 motor in a 00 and would like to keep the 96's sensor as is (except plug) if possible.

no... they have different amount of wires... you have to run the sensor to match the PCM... which means you need to bore and retap or install a helicoil (depending which way you are going)
Do you know what threads each uses, or better yet, where to find an adapter? The 96 seems to be close to 1/4NPT but I don't think that's quite it and the 00 is smaller than 1/8NTP.

You need to buy a special fitting that will let you put the 00+ sensor in the 96 block. I cant remember the p/n or website but it wasnt expensive. PM a member on here called Zyaaaa Im 90% sure he has the correct info.
Do a good search and you will find some post on this.
