I was told this is the better forum to use so.
I searched but did not find the proper answers. Where should I start. I have a 97 Cavalier Z24 with 2.2 all of the sudden it started missingI'mm guessing, or maybe a couple cylinders are not firing. What is the best method I can trouble shoot this.I'mm not much of mechanic but I been learning as I go. The car was running one day then this happens. I was in the process of getting my air working, it works now just got a leak still. I have traced into the car. I believe that is the condenser inside the car. Once I get it running right I will go back to the AC are there any guides for dash removal?
Did you get a check engine light with the misfire, most cars will give you one and tell you it's random misfire or individual cylinders....but for the most part, start by pulling the spark plugs and checking them, next go onto the wires, if they look old, replace plugs and wire...if that didnt clear the misfire up, pull the coil packs and look for carbon tracking or visual cracks in it. Ignition is the easiest to check and most likely the cause of misfires, atleast all the ones ive seen....start there and post back, let us know whats going on
As for dash removal....ill post 2 youtube links for you(not mine)

97 z24 with a 2.2? That year, in that trim, did NOT come with a 2.2
Crazy, he probly has a 97 2.2 with the Z24 styling package. My buddy has a 96 with the same.
I have a 97 2.2 also, and the engine ran fine when cold. Once it started to warm up it misfired bad. Almost to the point of stalling. After 3 weeks of research I found out it's the head/head gasket. It won't be blown, but once the engine warms up and everything expands, it leaks into the pistons and cause a misfire. This most likely means you have a warped head. Have your engine compression tested cold, and warm, then compare the results and it will tell you if you need to have your head planed.
