So I am in need of a muffler but have no clue what sounds nice on the ECOTEC J-body's. I was looking at Borla's Turbo (Pro XS) or the XR-1 Sportsman, but I wonder if they may be too loud. I want something suttle, quiet at idle, but with a deep tone under acceleration. No fart cans, please. Anybody have luck with this? Current setup is M62 supercharged with LSJ header, 2.5 downpipe with high flow cat, and 2.5 inch piping all the way back.
Sounds like you need a dynomax super turbo

This.
Stock Eco, its nice and subtle a idle, and keeps a good tone at higher rpm. Nothing raspy or obnoxious, just a good growl to it. I'll be finding out by the end of the week how it sounds with a m62

Agreed x100000000000000 best sounding muffler I've ever owned.
op: this is my old cheap NA eco exhaust, yes it's a fart can but let me see what you think. I think a good NA 4 cylinder exhaust is always built in the resonator, people over look a good resonator a lot.

Dynomax super turbo, the really big one. I forget what size it is but measure down there and order the biggest one that will fit.

Have a borla XL on my LD9 quad motor and its not too loud once you get over about 3200 rpms you can really feel the powerband and growl/vroom rather than a fart can rasp. It has a 32.5 inch cherry bomb as a resonator before the borla. I can't complain its nice. I'd say go with the borla.
I was checking out some sound clips on youtube for the dynomax super turbo and I wasn't really impressed. Not sure about it, might just stick to a Borla, but which one idk.
get a V8 muffler like one of those thare flowmasters with them baffles!
-Trailblazer SS - not so custom 6.0L - custom intake - custom tune
- (1) 2.4L on an engine stand (1) blown trans (2) good quad trans (1) eco trans = party
I just got a brand new magnaflow. Compared to my previous magnaflow this one is way better. Quiet at idle and sounds great up top. Deep and not raspy. See my profile for the part number!

There has to be reason its being recommended so many times in your thread...

Yeah, I'll check them again. It might just be the crappy youtube sound quality. Does anybody know how the flow would compare against the Borla Pro XS? Or the XR-1 for that. Borla's are straight through while the Dynomax is S-shaped inside.
dynomax has been proven to be one of the most free flowing on the market, yet still sustain its non-obnoxious tone.
vince is right dynomax do flow the most for a chambered muffler, but any muffler as long as the rest of the exhaust system is correctly made shouldnt ever have an obnoxious ricer sound to it

I think my problem is going to be the high flow cat with the lack of a resonator. That's what makes it sound raspy.
But I am glad to announce that I have been sold on a muffler... DynoMax VT!!!
I had a borla, it sounded the best, wished I never replace my header with a tsudo and going magnaflow.
I used to be sold on the VT until everyone with one had theirs break like 3 months down the road.

Damn. What was it that broke? Their flapper valve mechanism. Do you think they have improved the design and/or flaw?
Flapper spring, they've claimed to have fixed it like times but it still breaks on all of them.

I just put a brand new Tsudo and magnaflow. My Tsudo fit with no adjustments at all. I got rid of my RKSPORT ceramic header. The new 2.5 inch mandrel bent SS system coupled with a magnaflow muffler sounds awesome and has increased my HP.

How the hell did you get your tsudo to fit no problem? I had the toughest time installing mine. Not to mention it had an exhaust leak I had to get welded. I would tell everyone to stay away from tsudo.
I have had Magnaflow and cheap crappy eBay mufflers that were N1 style or some BS. Just went from a dual setup to a Vibrant 1147 which is a 3" inlet Oval black muffler with a 3" found tip with a 45 degree slant. Black sleeper muffler

Sound clips??
I can tell you what it sounds like. Real quiet idle and then when you step on it, from outside the car the exhaust just sounds like fast rushing air. So doing a flyby makes the car sound like it has a jet engine in it.
