2200 pistons vs .030 over
Tuesday, January 11, 2011 3:50 AM
Hello. Running a pre-1998 cavalier on circle track. The motor in the car currently is .030 over on the pistons. I was interested in building a back up motor with close to the same performance. How much difference would there be in compression between the 30 over and the 2200 pistons?

the difference would be very small...

30 over or ( .030 over) is what it actually is.

any time Stroke volume increases more than the chamber volume, you'll be raising the compression ratio

Well it's great that there is not much difference! Are these drop in replacements also?

the information I have given is on general engine knowledge...

As far as specific engine knowledge, I dont know Jack about the non-ecotec engines.

Sorry

0.030" over will only bump the compression about one or two tenths of a point. Swapping in the 2200 pistons would put you up somewhere around 12:1. Even with race gas and a good tune, this would push the limits of compression with a stock cam. Get a regrind with tighter lobe centers to reduce the dynamic compression and it'll run great.

Do i have to bore anything or use the 1.6 rods? What is required?
