whats the best way to chrome or polish a valve cover. or does any1 have a pic of any sweet custom valve covers. i have the plain 2.2 2200 dohc

Which engine is it? The 2200 is a OHV and the eco is the DOHC.

most local race shops could hook you up with a good professional polish job. Most of the time the price isnt to bad either. OEM offers the service as well.

hell harbor freight sells polishing kits with a few wheels and cotton mandrel, also the 3 different polishing compunds for about $17. Thats if you have the time for it .

The most interesting method I've seen was actually done to the plenum of a TPI 5.7: He gave it a shot of paint, then D/A-sanded it to get the paint off the fins. He progressively used finer grits of paper until he had a satin-like finish. The same could done to the 2.2L's rocker-cover.


Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Michael, that only works on the "97 & older VC. If he has the 2200, then it's like the picture above.

I've seen them done as you've described and polished, both look great. Haven't seen one chromed yet, but I'm sure someone has some where.
