Searched but didnt find much on it. Basically, I have a 2200 SFI ICM from a 2000 sunfire, with coils, and plug wires from a GTP (Which i found many people use when I searched), looking to scrap the LD9 ignition setup and switch to the 2200 ICM and coils.....just wondering if anyone knows anything as far as wiring for this?? I couldnt find anything when I searched that made sense. Thanks in advance for any help!

If it is a 2200 ICM that has a whole bunch of wires in the harness then you should have the same exact wires going to your 2.4 icm. they are even the same colors so just cut and attach. If you have one of the 3 wire 2200 icms im not sure how to do the wiring.
The ICM I have had one plug with 2 wires on it and a second plug with 4. I'm assuming your referring to that as the easy one? That would be awesome if its all just matching up colors lol

It has been a loooong time since I did the conversion and I can't remeber the exact number of wires but the correct 2200 icm should have the exact same amount of wires as the 2.4 icm and be the same colors.

It's been forever since I did the conversion so I can't remember the exact wiring process but I do remember it having the same number of wires and colors. It was a fairly simple conversion just make sure you do it right and solder everything.

Get a Haynes and look at the ICM diagram and match everything up. Even if the colors arent the same the wire duties should be the same.

Hey guys, my question isnt on how to do this, because I did search and found the answers I needed. So i know how to do the conversion, but my question is this, is there any real significance to doing the 2.2 coil swap. I mean, is it more responsive, better voltage, better gas mileage?? I ask because my vert has CRAPPY mileage. I wanna do this because 1. my coils I know are starting to go bad (due to the Putt I hear in the exhaust randomly while idling on initial startup) so If this is actually a better alternative, I can hit the junk yards, and grab a couple sets (One for my car and one for my girls 00 vert also) Thanks guys for any information. Its a pretty simple swap so im not worried about that, but would like to know pros and cons!

There are also MSD coils that work directly with the 2200 Icm
The pro's are that the coils are no longer on top of the engine which destroys the coils over time. They heat soak and start to go bad.
Since the coils on the 2.2 swap are bigger they'll have more dwell to the spark which means it should be stronger and you'll be able to get to your factory gap of .050 and .060.
When I had the factory setup, I had to gap my plugs to .045 to make the car run right.
With the coil swap I went back to the full .060 and I still had easier startups and could feel that the cars ignition was improved.
Con's, none that I know of.
Add an MSD controller on it all and you'll see some good fire to the plugs especially if you're boosted.

Right 8224 are the gm 2-tower coils,will work with 2200 stuff or msd interface modules
Hell even the factory 2200 stuff is better than the ld9 ignition
IŽll like to do the conversion on my Ž96 Z24 just want to get all I need together first. I would be using the 2.4 ICM, MSD coils and modules and some good 8mm wires, what else do I need? Maybe an ICM connector and two coil connectors if so someone has the part nbr. for them? or the GM connectors will do?
