ecotec injector sizing - dimensions of injectors
Monday, May 26, 2008 7:29 PM
just FYI for those parties interested:

i took some measurements of factory fuel injectors

2002 ecotec injectors:
overall injector length: 2.871" -or- 73mm
center o-ring to center o-ring: 2.494" -or- 64mm

2003-2005 ecotec injectors:
overall injector length: 3.124" -or- 79mm
center o-ring to center o-ring: 2.653" -or- 62mm

smallest aftermarket injector I'd use with a 03-05 rail:

bosche (ford) 440cc green top injectors:
overall injector length: 3.041" -or- 77mm
center o-ring to center o-ring: 2.579" -or- 65mm

because I screwed up the metric conversions, I'm correcting this:

2002 L61 injectors/ LSJ injectors:
overall injector length: 2.871" -or- 72.9mm
center o-ring to center o-ring: 2.494" -or- 63.3mm

2003-2005 L61 injectors:
overall injector length: 3.124" -or- 79.3mm
center o-ring to center o-ring: 2.653" -or- 67.3mm

smallest aftermarket injector I'd use with a J-body 03-05 rail:
bosch (color) top injectors:
overall injector length: 3.041" -or- 77.2mm
center o-ring to center o-ring: 2.579" -or- 65.5mm

our injectors are high impedance.

if ever you want to check:
take an injector, or unplug it, set a multimeter to DC resistance and touch the probes on the injector poles.

2.5ohms -to- 4ohms = low impedance
~12 ohms = high impedance

most bosch and siemens injectors fit. I'm pretty sure most car injectors follow a standard for injector o-ring size and such, so as long as the length is within the criteria I posted up above, they should work fine.

the only other thing you need to worry about is connecting the injector to the wiring harness. this website also has adapters from our plugs (EV6) to more common larger injectors (EV1 is most popular) so you don't have to cut and splice.

$5 dollars an adapter?! Thats a friggen steal I paid 4 dollars a connector for EV1's and I still had to splice them in.

ok so as long as the oring size is around 63.3, and not too much longer than stock. they should fit? is that what your saying??? so with splicing you can basicly use any injector??? what are the most common injectors used by ecotecs on here? for what application??

I have an 02 fuel rail and I need bigger injectors. Which bigger injectors will fit? LSJ injectors for example, but specifically BOSCH Green tops EV6? If I find some EV-1, all I do is buy the adaptors listed on connectorsfast.com and I'm ready to go? I don't want to buy aftermarket injectors and have fitment issues. If you guys know of any specific injectors that would fit my 02 rail, that would be awesome. Thanks

With the 02 rail I just use any cobalt ss injectors. I believe they're siemans (long and skinny) style injectors with ev1 connectors. Then you just need the adaptors, or make your own harness.

Or just get saab green top injectors. They are a direct swap. No connectors nothing needed

Aren't those the same as the stock lsj injectors?

I dont know if anyone has access to a smoke machine. but can some one smoke there system with the injectors in. with out the rail in and the injectors plunged all the way in, the system still leaks, however with the rail in it pulls the injectors back a few mm and it smokes badly. Ive reaplaced the orings on bott ends of the injectors and i even replaced the orings on the insert collar. still smoke, they just arent right for the car IMO. which is why im trying to go back to the seimens style injector, im looking at these

intense racing injectors

you cant beat the price and it keeps it in the family, not to mention if you already havent hacked up your harness like I have its a direct swap kinda seems like a no brainer.

just food for thought

That's where I shop and the guy is awesome to deal with. And they are even cheaper. I went with their new Lucas 750s and will be running those come spring time.

Yes and no lol. The saab ones are short and fat like the stock 02 ones and they are ev6 plugs. The lsj are short and fat as well but they have a ev1 plugs. For us 02 guys that need 36#ers the saabs are direct swap no connector swap nothing.

Edit: just googled lsj injectors and it seems some were ev6 like the l61 and some were ev1 lol. Leave it to gm.

it would have been nice to know that the 02's used ev6 connectors. I could have bought the 60's in ev6 the same price.

I had some LSJ injectors that were bad, but they fit right in without anything extra. My tuner said some of the 4 injectors was not spraying after hours of figuring out why the car wouldn't start! Don't tell me the LSJ injectors need some harness or splicing or whatever to make them work??? Put the stock ones back in and got the car tuned, sucked! What is the part number for the saab injectors? What year saabs? 2005-2009 9-3 with ecotec motor? I'll look it up. So, LSJ injectors 36 lbs will fit directly to my 02 fuel rail without adjustment, its the 03+ fuel rail I believe that needs harness etc? Anyone second that?

Are you sure he had the Injector constant right? I just don't see a Injector going bad like that. Also are you using stock fuel pressure? Part number for the saab injectors I don't know I would look but I say I wont see much. And you have the years correct. Yes lsj and saab injectors fit directly for us 02 guys but it seems some lsj ones had the ev1 connectors like older ld9's and some had ev6 like your stock injectors. My saab ones have ev6 and they were a direct swap.

I think he did have the injector constant right. If I remember correctly, it was 1 or close to it. Anyone know this? Maybe the injectors I have are good. I'll have to send them out for pressure testing? Where else can I find LSJ/Saab injectors to fit my 02 fuel rail?
