2200 Piston deck clearance?

Does anyone know the piston deck clearance on a 2200 OHV? (this is an '02, I dont think that matters though).

I was told it was .024" a while ago.... is that right?

This is a stock motor. I dont have anything to measure it with, Id assume all motors are "supposed" to be the same stock, and that all of them are different, but I'd think that the measurement would be close from motor to motor.

Im asking this because Im trying to decide on a head gasket thickness. Im looking to get about .040" of piston-to-head clearance, probably .045" or .050" just to be safe.

Any help or information would be awesome, ive been and continue to search and look for answers.

Thanks!

Other gasket makers sell the 0.040 for the 2200, and no one has a problem with that (on the 2200 at least, some 2.4 guys do though.)

Any less than that, you are on your own...

Perhaps mad jack or someone could hook you up with that info.

I believe Jack said .015" for the 2.2L, but I've never seen any confirmation.
Scarab has a 2200 laying around, I believe...

Well the motor I had that was already disassembled wound up in the scrap heap.. We needed the space in the shop and with the amount of sludge in it, we weren't going to trust it for a re-build anyway. I do have another one sitting around but its still assembled and it may be a while before I can get to it. From what I recally, it seemed like the deck clearance was actually fairly substantial, but I never got a proper measurement so I won't guess at it.

do the pistons pop up at all? if not then all you gotta do is measure how much rock they have and give them .030 of clearance. ...at least thats the way it is on an LD9.

id think the .040 would be fine. it really all depends on ur piston height.

i've never been inside a 2200...just took off a head quick at the junkyard. just trying to make some calculations for clearance and cr

One way to find out, is an old muscle car trick, but this involves engine disassembly.
Place a small piece of clay/playdough on the piston, and manually turn over the motor.
The clay will form to the size of the chamber.
Then measure the thickness, once the head is removed.
This will give you piston to valve clearance also.

I know cometic makes a .07 gasket for "boosted" applications.
Im running it with no problem.
