Need Help on my 2.2 race car
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 12:10 PM
i bought this car it is already gutted with a cage. it has a 2.2l in it. I am no stranger to cars nor cavaliers but i cant get it started. it turns over fine has fire and fuel, the timing is right i took the cover off to check again for sure the marks line up. the problem is the car is kinda pieced together by the other guy as far as ecu and wiring goes but i got the part numbers off the ecu, i know the ecu for sure is a 95 and i need to know is there another wiring harness that fits the 95 ecu or is it just 95 to 95 if so is that the same for the ign cntrl module and the crank and cam sensors? Also is there a way for me to ohm the crank and cam sensors to check if they are good or not? Also would it just be easier to get say all 96 stuff, if so what all would i need to get the car started if i went that route? please help with any info you have and or questions about it, i can get you the answers. i just need to get the car started so i can get it on the track, thanks

Look for a cam-sensor. Not there? it's a pre-'96 engine, and meant to work with the OBD-I ECM. If it is there, but not connected, look for a complete '97-later OBD-II system. Use a '97 harness if the injectors are side-feed, and a '98-later harness if they're the more conventional top-feed. And good-luck on this project.

BTW: are the rockers all pretty-much level with one-another? If so, your lifters collapsed & need replacement.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
