the car don't want to start up at first and will sometimes kinda backfire through the exhaust. once it starts it runs perfect. I've been told the tensioner on the timing chain could be bad and the timing is jumping until the oil pressure on the tensioner build up, (it just don't make sense that it would run fine once started if something was wrong in the timing chain area) and that it could also be the fuel pressure regulator causing the problem.
it throws no codes and I've swapped all the coils, coil housing, ignition module, and crank sensor with no change. smoke tested the car for vacuum leaks as well. I have noticed the ingnition switch is hard to get the key to turn now, could the ignition have anything to do with it?
There's a recall for a defective connection involving the key switch I believe.
You may want to look this up to see if it's applicable to you.
I'd also check your fuel pressure and make sure that the symptoms you're having aren't related to a bad fuel pump.
Other than that, good luck.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
i swapped out the ignition and fuel pressure regulator and still nothing. Im going to try checking the fuel pressure next. what should the pressure be for the 2.4? I still don't think it could be the tensioner for the timing chain because i would think it would eventually be so out of time it would run it that were causing the chain to slop a little.
and you know its not slopping?
I feel like taking a tinkle on an ecNOtec...

don't know for sure if it is or not but if the timing chain was slopping enough on start up to cause the car to backfire, die and just cut out wouldn't it eventually be out of time enough where it wouldn't run at all? It runs perfect once it starts which makes me want to rule out a bad fuel pump as well.
