hello fellas i have any issue and maybe someone could help.
i had my head port and plished a while ago and now that i put it on some bolts stripped on me. its the bolts that hold the cam towers on. so i was told that i could have those holes drilled out one size bigger and tap them and put in some new bolts. well i had that done and i tapped them and now three of them stripped and i have an oil leak. i didnt over tightened these so you cant tell me its because of over tightning them, well any who, this port and polish cost me 1200 bucks cause i had the 1mm valves installed and stuff so i dont wanna start over. can i fix this? if so how? a lot of shops here wont tell me how to fix just that they can but they wanna charge me another arm and a leg to do it. should i just start over? please help me out on my options. i know a lot of you guys know your shiza on this stuff.

GM actually makes a kit for those but your suppose to heli-coil it at first, keep the same sized bolts
it happens alot on the ld9 using anti seize should also help a little

First of all, can you not take it back to the place that ported your head? because they probably stripped the heads anyway while porting. Tell them they were not stripped until they touched it, make them fix it.
And what Cody said, try the GM stuff. Timesert also makes insert kits that you can buy to fix them.

you can use the counter-part SAE bolt if you dont want to mess with all the heli-coil BS. the threads are just a bit larger so they have more meat to hang on to.
its a cheap, redneck fix but it gets the job done.
id prefer doing it the right way and then doing away with those idiotic bolts all together and going with studs.

i tried taking the head back but the guy told me they didnt touch the threads. plus i only took them the head with no towers so i dont think they had any business messing with that. i tried the coil suff and didnt work so thats a no no. either i dont know how to use those or they just plain out suck . but let me try the gm stuff or the time insert. thanks fellas at least im pointed in a direction now. i will post again if i need help again. thank you.
That sucks, well a machine shop should be able to fix them at least. I freakin hate machine shops, we are at their mercy.

guy on quad4forums sells stud replacements for those bolts...the threads in the head actually go down about1/2 inch deeper than the bolts, so the studs take advantage of that, just an option.
^^^ um yeah dont buy those, they are cheesy and way over priced. they are just threaded rod cut to length with some nuts. anybody can make them for pennies on what he charges.
