I have read a tune isn't needed for the stage 1 cams. But I have never seen anyone use them with the reflash. I will be using a partial saab partial custom turbo kit with gm reflash. What gains will I see without hpt? Would it even be worth the money
I'd say you'd see about 25%-30% of what the set-up would due if it was properly tuned with the proper cams. Why the stage 1 N/A cams over the turbo grind? Is it because "they do not require a tune". Just get the turbo cams and HPT, you will thank yourself in the end.
Now I'm confused... so when my "Saab" kit is complete if I add these cams I will see a power LOSS?
So will I be better off with my stock cams?
N/A cams need valve overlap. It is the amount of time both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time to help evacuate the exhaust gases from the cylinder. The more fresh air you have in the cylinder the more power you will make.
With a turbocharged application you dont need valve overlap because the extra pressure/air flow does the same thing, but quicker. The more valve overlap you have with a turbo, the more fresh air is pushed out with the exiting exhaust. Less air = less power.
