New muffler, same old tip

I want to replace the stock muffler with something better, but I don't want to get rid of the stock exhaust tip. Anyone done this before? I know i'll need a center in, offset out muffler but what size piping? Thanks in advance

Are you going to do the whole exhaust or just put a different muffler on? I have heard the people like the dynomax super turbo muffler

How about this?:

Dynomax's New "Valved" Muffler

I've seen alotta things in the way of exhaust diversion & restricting valves in my lifetime, but this is something relatively new (Seen something like this before... Only externally done, and sometimes tied to the throttle (On bikes, that is)). Maybe this is the solution to the old "Add a glass-pack, run a 'turbo-style' muffler" debacle. Maybe this combined with a glass-pack is the ultimate solution: Dead-quiet at idle, highly-noticeable under full-throttle, and just loud enough (With the right tone) under cruise.

Just thought I'd put that out there.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

I want to do the whole exhaust, but I dont have the cash right now for a header and a cat and to get it all welded up. All i want to do for now it change out the muffler and put the tip back on so I dont have a coffee can dragging the pavement behind my car. im looking for suggestions on a muffler, but I DO NOT want my shat to sound like a rice rocket

im assuming this is on your truck... jBody engines can only have 1 header.

that dynamax valved muffler looks interesting, but i wonder if it sounds annoying at full throttle or not?

I bet it sounds ricey at WOT. I'm wondering if my little stock Eco can even push that valve open....I guess i'll run down to my buddy's shop and have him weld up either that super turbo or a regular flowmaster. I know neither of them will sound like a fart cannon
