Fresh rebuild Cranks but no start
Ok guys,
I dont post problems often, or post often for that matter. I NEED HELP!
Quick run down I built the engine, this is my 3 ecotec I've built. Many other engines also.
1st time this has ever happened to me.
Hook up everything to the engine, went to start it. it ran for 8 sec and abruptly shut off.
Now cranks but wont fire, sounds like it is firing out of sequence ( timing is off )
I have tried:
New/ old CPS
new/ old ICM
3 different sets of coils
3 new sets of plugs ( kept fouling them out )
Checked all wiring/ grounds
Replaced gas with fresh gas
I have spark
I have fuel 40 PSI with key on
I have 180+ PSI of compression
I have triple checked the valve timing ( tearing it fully down each time)
I have power to injectors ( used light niods )
I did the passlock relearn thing ( even though I dont see a security light)
Checked all fuses, relays
Battery voltage is good, cranks awesome.
Once in a while it will pop out the intake manifold
whats next?
Why wont it run? It's killing me. Please help!
if the timing was off a bit would it hurt a valve like on a ohv.
and I wouldn't have the compression I do, right.
It seems like spark timing is off...
Only thing left is wiring or a pcm. Is the coil actually firing?

that only prevents false misfire codes
the car also needs to run to be able to do the procedure
unless its way different in an eco than the ld9

The car would still run if the CPS relearn code was showing. Sounds like maybe timing.

I thought 1 tooth off on our ecos would kill valves...
I have taken apart the timing 3 times. I have compression so that tells me I didnt kill any valves, right?
I am second guessing myself on everything, this makes your brain hurt
Yea try to re time it, that what my 3.4 sounded like when mine was off.

I love how everything gets posted in Performance lol.

couldn't think of where to post it... move it if need be. sorry.
Spray starting fluid in it see if it runs.

haven't checked that...
gonna try a tune rewrite wednesday. Got a friend coming over with HPT.
We'll disable vats/passlock then
Turning off VATs didnt work, tune re-write didnt work....
At a loss here....
Fully built engine that wont run for the last 2 weeks...
everything plugged in, ive had a few cars i put an engine in and they wouldn't crank.... crank sensor was not plugged in.
- Your not-so-local, untrained, uncertified, backyard mechanic. But my @!#$ runs
Have you flashed the ECU a lot? maybe that messed it up if you did. try a different ecu? ground straps? Im just tossing out anything here lol. Fuse block? coil packs? fuel pump.

would he be getting fuel pressure if the fuel pump was dead?
The eco should be 50-60psi of fuel pressure with key on. Maybe the pump is dieing. Not to sure.
I've been told that the amount of psi is ok...
Is 40psi right or no? Would that keep my @!#$ from running?
Vince, I'm gonna try another PCM as soon as I can find one.
mine sits at about 42 psi. and hopefully you figure it out.
40Psi is good i run 42psi stock is around 55-60,It doesnt seen like a fuel issue if your fouling plugs more like a spark issue.Compression in good so i doubt timing is off.Ecotec would still crank if cps sensor was bad just a long crank.Maybe map sensor?
hey i have had a similar problem... try checking the fuses under the hood... there should be a 50 fuse that one was always blow on me and it would do the same thing just a shot that i have had a similar problem....

tried to different map sensors, yesterday I made a mark @ tdc on the crank pulley, adapted spark plug wires to the stock coil pack, got a timing light out and shot it at the crank.
It seems to be sparking at the right time too... I also tried changing out the injectors to my 60# ones and still nothing.
Did you ever try to run it with carb cleaner? Just to see if it runs then at least you know its a fuel issue. If you have spark and fuel only other thing would be ecm or fuse that blew. Only other time if seen that is when customers put diesel in tank and it would sit there and crank all day long.
I guess I can try starter fluid... why not right?
