Resonator Exhaust Question
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 9:41 PM
I've done a little research on here and kep seeing that an 18 inch resonator is the ideal resonator for an exhaust system. My question...is the 18 inches the case length or the total length? I ask because I found a resonator on summitracing.com that is decently priced. The listing says that the case length is 18 inches long and the total length is 23 inches. Would this work? Here is the link to the part...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The resonator is from end to end 23 inches long, the case that resonates the exhaust sound is 18 inches, that gives you a few inches on each size for clamping/welding to pipes

Mine is 32inches from end to end, so a smaller one would fit just fine.

Thanks guys. I was looking into upgrade the exhaust system on my car and I don't want it obnoxiously loud. I'm looking for a more mellow tone (not a weed whacker). So I decided to go with 2 1/2in pipes with a header, and either the dynomax super turbo, or the flowmaster 60 series, or whatever I haven't decided yet. As well as a resonator. Any objections or tips would help. I want to do it right the first time. Thanks again.

i have a 28" thrush glasspack as my resonator. works great. and the dynomax super turbo. sounds stock for the most part, til you get on it and go, then it wakes it up a bit.

So what is te biggest complaint with the Flowmaster 60 series? It seems like no one on here likes them...why is that?

Screw all that and just go straight pipe from the header back to a side exit. .

Here's my most recent sound clip.

alright batman.

did you have Alfred install that light show?

and to the OP as long as you have the stock header 18" case resonator should be fine. though the ln2/2200's seem to run a little quieter then the ECO's or the LD9's even with an aftermarket header. it useually is best to pack as much resonator as your can under the car. it doesn't hurt performance any and daily drive ability kick ass when you dont get a drowning headache and bleeding ears and premature deafness from your exhaust.
