DYNO POST PIC - LE5 MANIFOLD ADDITION WITH RE-TUNE WHP NUMBERS!

Having trouble uploading this pic-sorry if doesn't work I'll try again!

166 WHP & 145 TQ

Hey,

Finally got this mod done - 36lb injectors had to come out! 1 or 2 of them were not spraying fuel. Took awhile to diagnose too!iBack on stock injectors - I am surprised only because of the agreement among many J-body members that it was really needed with this intake manifold addition. So here is a short summary of what happened.

The tuner says I still have slightly more fuel if needed. I ended up with 170 something but with "peaks" on the top whp and tq curves right at redline - he had to adjust the spark timing I think is what he mentioned. The car didn't like that! - I'm down to 166! Not sure if I need bigger injectors because he says there is fuel there - we have 24lb injectors I believe- Cars should run at least 185 whp on those from a bunch of dyno dudes.

What do you guys think?

This post is for you guys that are like me - want to know how much power would I get from what mod- How many mods do I have to do to get this much power etc! Thanks to all the j-body guys that gave me good advice and information!

Do you have any more info on the injector duty cycle with the LE5 manifold...what fuel pressure.

with all those mods I'd believe you'd make more power. With those cams, I'd seriously suggest upgrading your valve springs

So did I. Maybe I do need bigger injectors. I really thought 175 whp was what I'd end up with or close to it. 9 whp Nothing else I can do but get a re-tune with bigger injectors- Plus it was 91 degrees outside! Only choice I have to get that 9 whp and more is to free up hp (flywheel), or stage II head with valvetrain complete. Yes I know I need those springs and retainers. I really want them as well! Car never driven but once a month for a few miles now - but I got to get the valvetrain. Couldn't pull past 6800 RPM for more whp. So I don't plan to go over 6800 on stock valvetrain. 7K or 7100 I'd be scared

And sorry forgot to answer the gain before LE5 manifold. I had 155 whp before this manifold was installed. Apparently duty cycle on HPT PRO and our crap ECU's won't give him that information or there something else he needed to get that information. I also had hardly any fuel pressure (did not check it with gauge) but when they were diagnosing my 36lb injector issue the fuel barely came out instead of squirting out like it should at 55 psi or so. No idea!!! Then stock injectors back in, the car starts and I guess I got fuel pressure back. Weird!

so he's telling you there's more fuel there with the stock injectors but doesn't know how hard the injectors are working?

i'd be a bit concerned about that personally..

Yeah I agree with what Strat81 said, on hpt cavattack could read my duty cyle when he tuned my m62 and 42lb/hr's and it was mid to hi 30's for duty cyle

Holy crap...that would scare me. Why can he not see the injector duty cycle with HPTuners? That in itself worries me the most....

I logged a car with le5 manifold, stock injectors, it was peaking at about 80 % duty cycle. I don't see a need to upgrade. PJ blew his motor because he turned off the knock retard, not because he didn't have enough fuel.

He doesn't just have the le5 manifold, he also has cams and a bored out throttle body. If others are getting 80% duty cycle with just the manifold, this guy has to be up near 100%.

And with those cams, you have (stage 3) in your info. Are you running those with stock valve springs? I though stage 1 cams where enough to float the valves?

my stock injectors with the mods I have are maxxed, you are above what I have done, I'd seriously be concerned.

and tom pj blew his motor because he leaned out, he leaned out over 1.0 afr with thele5 manifold

Knock with turned off knock retard = blown motor (chipped ringland).

HPT does not just log injector duty cycle on it's own. It has to be setup. I have not logged a J yet I could not log injector duty cycle on. If you are on stock injectors I would be concerned.

I thought you did the racetronix fuel pump? If you did that could be the one reason they might not be maxed out.

Interesting. Maybe he didn't figure that out. He owns his own tuning business and was offered to teach HPT. He definitely told me he is not used to our ECU as he mainly tunes LS1 motors. I did not use the racetronix, I decided to go back to a new OEM pump. He said I have some fuel reserve so and from looking at my dyno sheet I have enough fuel as I am not running lean top end. I wish I was able to get him to figure out the duty cycle. I am really curious. If anyone knows how to set it up in HPT I can go back and see him to find out.

Knock with turned off knock retard = blown motor (chipped ringland).

"so what happened? I'm not sure.
I know I had my ignition advanced a LOT and I ran lean under WOT in a high rpm... which means that I probably detonated.
my kR is turned off, so that wouldn't have saved me."

Meaning that if he had Kr "on" he would have possibly been ok right?
I ran my car up to 7k rpms the other day. I have the LE5 manifold, stock injector and stock TB, injector duty cycle peaked at 83%...
This is the same car Tom was talking about above which has 80% @ around 6500rpm

detonation still has to occur for kr to come into play... not a real good way to run a car.

Right, over advanced timing with K.R. turned off. What does a stock motor run a/f ratio wise, the computer stays in closed loop and still commands 14.6-1, I doubt he was running leaner than this. If he was running 15.6-1 I doubt he would blow it still, the timing is what blew the motor.

To the OP: Your tuner couldn't log injector pulsewidth? I believe this is a default for any config in HPT, and duty cycle is easy to confirm from there (although HPT does this calculation):

IDC = (IPW * rpm) / 1200, where IDC = injector duty cycle, IPW = injector pulsewidth, and 1200 = constant to convert milliseconds, rpm and percent.

As far as the cams, we really need specs to judge if the whp is in line, but upgraded valvesprings are pretty much a must. The max lift is the main concern - running to the stock redline or 8k rpm, you will break stuff eventually without a margin of safety from coilbind.

Cam Specs: Intake: 268
Exhaust: 262
Valve Lift: 0.412
Valve duration?: 0.050
Powerband Operating Range: 4500-8000 rpm
Cannot remember anything else at the moment. I really believe more knowledge of my ECU should have got me more power.
