Hey All,
I recently just purchased a Pacesetter Armor Coated Header and Magnaflow Cat. However I am having second thoughts on the cat I bought. Here is my setup. The Pacesetter has a 2.25" downpipe and I will have 2.5" piping from the cat back. I picked up a Magnaflow Spun Cat P/N:54959. It has 3" openings. My friend is custom making an adapter for the downpipe to fit the cat. However, I am not sure if going from 2.25-3-2.5(downpipe-cat-piping) is a good thing or not. I have been considering these options as well Magnaflow Spun P/N:54955, Magnaflow Standard P/N:54306, or Magnaflow Standard P/N:54305. All of these would be coming from Jegs. The reason why there is no 2.5" Spun Cat in the list is because Jegs wont have them in for a number of weeks. So what do you guys think would be best. Should I stick with the Spun style or go with the Standard High Flow? Also what size variantor overall piping, 2.25-3-2.5, 2.25-2.5-2.5, or 2.25-2.25-2.5? (downpipe-cat-piping) Any info would be awesome!
Thanks!
Chris Stickles
Does anyone have any info for me?
If anything i would change the overall piping to 2.25" like the rest of your exhaust thats if you really wanna go all out. Overall though i dont think you have much to worry about except that it will pry be a little deeper since your going into the bigger pipe and the spun cat might be a litte louder depending if its strait through but hell i'd rather have deeper than raspy. My new setup is going to be pacesetter 4-1 header then 2.25" piping all the way back with a 3" vibrant muffler and 2.25" standard high flow cat, if u wanna chk it out i'll try to get a sound clip up this weekend when i get it installed.
its not how fast you go its how fast you get there
Thanks for the input man.....My exhaust is already pretty deep but I would rather it is deeper and louder and raspy and obnoxious. I should be getting them put on either today or Thursday......I will post back when everything is done. Although, any other input on how it will sound or anything else would be great!
that is supposed to be deeper and louder instead of raspy and obnoxious......lol
Well, I got everything on last week. Buddy still needs to tune it (probably happening later today) but other than that it is good to go. Def. seems like it has some more top end but even some extra kick to the torque.
As far as sound goes it could be better. It is A LOT louder, but it does have more "bad" sound to it at times. It sounds good unless I hammer it basically. I wouldnt really call it raspy though, what it sounds like is "tinny." Like how my exhaust sounded before when I first started my car up. After the piping heated up and what not it sounded really good. However, now it does it has that "tinny" sound all the time when I hammer it, though it still gets better when my exhaust heats up. It does seem like it has got better over the past couple of says though....so I will have to see how it goes over the next couple weeks after I get some miles on it to break it in and it gets a nice carbon build up. If it hasn't "calmed down" after that I am thinking about getting a resonator for it.
What are your guys opinions on the sound and should I put on a resonator? If so, please list some good resonators to go with. Thanks everyone!
Sorry for the spelling and stuff, did this really quick and it is like almost 4am, lol!
Flowmaster hushpower mufflers has been used as resinators
Well after a couple weeks and still not happy with how my car sounded I decided to go to jegs and get a Dynomax Bullet Muffler to use as a resonator and I am very happy with the results. It basically totally got rid of the rasp except when I full thottle but it has been going away after the past couple days and it almost gone. So it sounds exactly what it did before I did the header and high flow cat! Thanks for your guys opinions and advice!
