98 ld9 Tach Signal

Since the other thread on here went to s hit, I decided to make a new one. I am in the process of wiring up an aftermarket tach and would like to know where a solid tach signal can be found in terms on pcm harness plug location. This means I DON'T want to use the pink wire. I know Brandon specified pin c2-10 in this post and a few people confirmed, however, they happen to be in 99+ cars. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=2&i=447184&t=447154#447184

Even David has swapped up years. Reason for this post is that I checked both harness plugs (blue and clear) and pin 10 is occupied on both. Is one of these the stock tach signal or is there a year difference? Basically I'm just wondering the correct pin I need to run to in a 98 year. Thanks

Theres a wire that goes to your ICM that will work on adjustable shift lights, but I've never found a true tach signal wire anywhere. If you hit it with a test light, the light should flash, and I never found one other than going to the ICM, but you cant use a tach on it because it will read like 10 grand when your really at 6.

on the 98 it might be found in the fuse box in the engine bay. i know i installed a aftermarket tach on my 97z and got the source wire from the fuse box

Thanks for the replies. I was aware of the fuse box route, but wasn't sure how reliable it was but hey, i'll give it a shot and see.

Update: It does in fact produce a signal, but the tach needle just moves slooow. If I rev the car the stock tach will jump up to xrpm and back down much faster than the aftermarket one. Whats the reason for this, cause that just won't fly

Bump, need a solution here. There are no 96-99's running an aftermarket tach?
