hey guys, i got some more questions (this one more disturbing than the last)
I had a guy do some engine work for me and he turned out to be a complete too. He told me that the pumps in the 2.3 engines had a nylon gear and that he thought it would
be a step down instead of an upgrade. After all kinds of other disasters with that @$$hole (fenton machine on Thompson) i took it somewhere else.
Being i was in a hurry (dumb i know) I had another guy do that work and got the engine built WITHOUT pump conversion
What do u guys think I should do... I have a turbo setup almost ready to install and i have the motor built, new head, secret cams forged pistons rods yadda yadda yadda
so time for questions
First - Why isnt the pump swap a sticky?
Second - What do you guys think I should do?
Third - Is it true about the gear being nylon not metal
Fourth - Who do I contact for one of those pans to be made?
Fifth - What am I looking at for price?
Lastly please no fighting on this post i read some of the quarreling in another post
if i wanted an arguing i'd call my brother and tell him his wife is fat and stupid
Thanks in advance
Andrew
get in contact with brad aka zyaaa he knows how to get his hands o that stuff and also is running a group purchase right now on the new style pick ups so you wont need your oil pan cut and welded.......

NYJbodies had a sticky or faq that explained it. There are pictures floating around that I will send to your email that are just as good if not better than any sticky on the subject.

Its up to you. If you want to pay to have the whole bottom end rebalanced, then you could go the 2.3L pump route...If you're only using secret cams, I personally wouldn't.

Pump gear - perhaps
Crank gear - no way in hell

Atomic can probably modify yours. Todd Miller was doing them, but I think we pissed him off ten too many times.

I don't know what Atomic would charge, but I paid a guy about $100 locally if memory serves me right.
I have no signiture

I am personally guilty on many of those offenses. While I won't back down from anything I've said in the past (unless it's blatantly wrong), I honestly do miss his input on many a subject.

holy crap... see thats why i get on here. you guys know your stuff..
one thing to whalesac though... i am running secret cams
but the engine is built and a turbo WILL be installed. i actually have it just havent installed it yet.
maybe i will run it this way now ... and just do the pump next year when i do the turbo install...
i had a botched paintjob (gave the guy 2200 and got screwed) so maybe i should concentrate on the apprearance first...
then when i have all the money to do everything right... turbo in for spring 2011
ALSO i had a lot of turbo questions...
i post it in the boost forum under INTERCOOLER
could you guys also read that and give some more input too
thanks again
Andrew

agreed. i wish he'd grace us with his presence more often. the man knows how to get the job done and we could ALL learn from him.

yeah the man knows his stuff. Best part is he knows how to get it done right! anything he has ever done has been reliable and top notch.
brad you should pm him your swap...
i have bought my second oil pan from him about what... 3-4 month ago. you can try to contact him via e-mail
So do you guys think that I should just do an engine teardown after I just had it rebuilt???
i have seen a couple guys run big numbers with the stock pump...
i plan on running 13-15 PSI from a Turbonectics T3/T04E turbo

i wish i had a chance to sit down and pick his brain about my build while i was still researching my build specs... however i discussed it with MD, Clyde, Brad, and Karo extensively.
so..... Should I or.. Not?
thats a tough question... if the block is merely assembled but the head isn't attached, i'd do it... spend a little bit redoing the bottom end will be worth it...
now if the head is attached, i probably wouldn't and just keep low boost... gaskets aren't cheap...
the answer lies with you... how much money do you want to spend?? vs how much boost do you want
thats true...
yeah i have been driving the car for a while after i had it rebuilt. it was done a ocuple years ago. i just never bolt the kit on.
um well what about 13 PSI from a stage 2 or 3 Turbonectics T3/T04E i think .63 trim?
would that be safe?
yes gaskets are not cheap...
I'm not sure why everyone associates power with the 2.3L pump swap. The first and foremost reason for the swap is not the loss in weight. The problem with the 2.4L pump isn't related to horsepower. It's problem is that it can't supply oil well over 6500RPMs without causeing cavitation. The same holds true for the 2.3L pump for over 8000RPMs.
Therefore, you should be fine on 9999999psi of boost with the stock pump, as long as you aren't revving very high.
I have no signiture
oh... Well i wasnt looking at revving it out really far... I should have probabaly picked a different turbo but i wanted to keep it between 6-6500
i probably wont enjoy it as much but... gotta play it safe for a while
