Hey, ive read the sticky, and all the search posts etc, but i cant find an actual hp gains on the secret cam swap? anyone ever dynoed with the cams on and posted it?
Depends on who tunes the car.
grow some balls and get some HOs in there
wish i would of
but if your just looking for a little gain secret cams will do it
i hear any where from 20-25 hp gains
8 psi with m62 and IAT under 100
haha i would, if u can find me HO cams for 150 bucks hahaha, and all the @!#$ id need to put in
I had some for sale lol, and can get some lol

20-25 whp gain is not for secret cams. Maybe with a good tune 10whp, but not sure, and no one really knows.

The secret cams seem to shift the power band Higher. In a non ported near stock engine it will still give you higher up top HP numbers taking from your down low. Many who run these with just bolt ons and no tune said their 1/4 mile time stayed the same but the butt dyno gives the impression of more power. Ive read that several times over the years on these foums.

I agree with that for the most part. The motor sounds different in the higher RPMs with them, but once I started tuning car really came alive.

i would have to agree as well. But If your gonna go with cams you might as well get a spare block take your time and do an entire build. Pistons rods and cams, and oil pump conversion. It does take some money and time but you'll yield more hp and tq. this will prolly cost you upward towards 3k for a complete build but if you want to have an engine you can play with that will do it.

So if your going to do cams, which would be roughly around $100 bucks, you might as well take a spare engine and spend $3000 on it?
That does not make any sense. If your able to spend $100, might as well spend $3000...

also agree. No where near as involved to install cams, as it is to build a motor.

well its all up to you but in order to maximize your gains all i'm saying is you might as well do all the other supporting mods that you can to gain every bit you can. Your not going to see a noticible gain from cams alone. But they will help.
and if i went to HOs, i'd need new valve springs and lifters correct? and a tune obviously, would the gain from this be worth it?
for secret cams all you really need is header back exhaust, less restrictive intake and cams, and if smart then put new water pump in so doesnt go

ya i know, but for HOs i need all new valvetrain basically, and a tune right?
this was I was told...for these to work you would need to get your cam towers bored for the bigger lifters and beveled a tiny bit for the cam clearance...so yes you do need more than new valvetrain and a tune
alright, now ive heard of people swapping over an 086 head entirely, i beleive thats the HO head, what exactly needs to be done to accomplish that?
Ive done that, its basically just gasket matching and of course youd need the 2.3 intake and exhaust manifolds. It bumps the compression to 11.37-1 so premium fuel is a must. Also without getting different pistons the secret cams are the largest you can run since with the 086 head the vales physically sit closer to the pistons. I did this swap with just the stock cams and the power difference is amazing.
hmmm, cuz i have the HO mani, and the exhaust wouldnt be too hard to get a hold of... how much does an 086 head run me ya think?
that depents on the head and how it checks out i can cost you anywhere from 50-250 for a good one or if your lucky you can find someone looing to get ride of a head for cheap.
is that with the cams too? or just the bare head, no valves or nothin
JUST the head.
