hey guys i was just wondering if you knew what cars the 2.3 HO motors came in . im looking in junk yards and im seeing 2.3 motors but i dont know if they are HO and what not. the reason why im asking is cause i want the cams out of them and the intake manifold. alright thanks
check the cars VIN..the 8th digit in the VIN will be an A.
A= 2.3 HO quad engine
D=2.3 LO quad engine
this goes for ANY car
okay cool thanks dude.. and do you know what all goes into doing an intake swap from a2.3 to a 2.4.. cause i have a 2.4.. and i want that HO 2.3 intake manifold
i'm selling a set of HO cams for $50 shipped right now. shoot me a pm if you're interested.
87 Firebird
All stock...........lol.
To do this swap you will need either a phenolic adaptor or cut the flange off the HO mani and weld on a metal 2.4 Flange. The 2.4 has B shaped ports, while the 2.3 has oval.
For the cams, you will also need the cam housings and bigger lifters. The exhaust side is drop in, but the intake side will need the intake cam machined to accept the 2.4 power steering.
Further, you will need a tune immediately to unlock the power of the cams. You'll hit your redline before you complete your powerband. Also if you have a 99 or older 2.4, you will have to delete the EGR, as the HO mani blocks this. (00 + did not come with an EGR and just has the big gaping hole on the head)
alright well cool thanks a lot... cause ive been junk yard hunting lol and i have found a few 2.3 's... but there not HO so i will be on the hunt and hopefully i can find one lol... and also are there any hp adds with doing this or what?
the manifold is rumored to lose 10 whp on N/A motors (i'd personally like a retest under different variables)
the cams basically need a tune to get the real gains out of it... do you know someone with HP Tuners?
Bringing this back from the dead but what year and cars did this come in?
You could just use Wikipedia. That is what I always use for my engine and transmission searches. I hope it doesn't take 3 years for people to answer my posts its already been days.

On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.
this is the list I used to guide me to cars... found my manifold after an hour of searching a yard... in a car that brad wants i'm sure
I took it from Q4fourms... it was a list of all quad equipped cars.. i slimmed it down to all W41/LGO cars since they have the HO manifolds...
