I am starting my winter project for my car and am debating about putting some cams in it while I am at it. I know there is the secret cam swap and j-body performance has some too. I'm wondering what would be a good choice for a cam with the mods I have and am doing this winter. Check out my car profile to see whats done and what I am planning on doing if you have any suggestions that would be awsome. Thinking since I am doing a tune after everything is on I might as well do the cams before the tune so I can get the most out of them.
Now where would I locate some of these?
probably in one of john's cars HAHAHA
but seriously.. as far as i know LZM can grind a set of stockers to have a tri-flow profile-which should be good for N/A or you can have them do similar but better profiles similar to that of the secret cams, or even still you can get a boost profile. expensive though just fo re-grinds at $500.

I just don't want to put in the secret cams and not be satisfied. I have heared they don't have huge gains. I want a cam that is gonna be noticeable and give some decent gains. I know the cams on j-body performance are pricey but if they work good then I wouldn't mind spending the money. I think they claim like 22hp or something crazy like that, but who knows how much they actually give.
well a lot of things are just thrown up into the air in this j-body world of modification. 90% of the time when people say the secret cams do not give a gain whatsoever are the ones who do not tune the car afterwards to fully utilize the larger profiles. its true though, they really are not that much different than stock. the largest gain in profile numbers is the exhaust cam and even then its not a whole lot. not near as much as say the HO cams. and even on top of tuning the best way to see them help out is to have the head worked on a little bit as well.
the JBP or LZM 'stage 2's' basically have a lot more duration than the secret cams provide but maintain the same or very close to the same lift numbers. one example is the 90-94 LO exhaust cam (secret cam) is .375 lift, same as the JBP and LZM stage 2's.
without proper tuning ANY cam 'upgrade' is going to pretty much be mute. ive seen it a few times with our cars. they just don't take well to cams without the tuning to go along with them.

If you want more than the secret cams without spending a ton go HO. The intake has to be drilled and have a hex insert pressed in, but the exhaust is a no mod. Or even the ho exhaust cam and secret intake. Either way of you want more aggressive, your gona have to spend some money or do modding.
^^^^ true. the rankings on the highest ld9 whp lists are filled with HO equipped cars.

I will have to check when I get back to work, but I think these are the specs of the xx5 cams are the same as HO's but with .375 lift.

So if I did go with the HO cams (secret swap) and did a tune after do you think it would be worth it or are the gains even still not that great. The JBP cams have 2 prices beside them. Not sure whats up with that. Its like this on their website [$768.9 (US$645.88)]. Wondering if these cams would be a better choice for performance gains than the HO secret swap. If someone has heard anything about these cams or know of some reviews I would like to hear about it. I'd love to get a wicked set of cams. Wouldn't mind building a really good m45 s/c setup. Heres the cams if anyone is wondering.

and really... JBP really isnt reliable, or so ive heard. if i were you id go with LZM instead... they are the exact same cams.

DO NOT GO WITH JBP!!!!
I am very happy with the secret cams for my DD, but I also have tuning to go along with that.
I got the Secret Cams in my DD also. If you can overrev the car some you will feel the gains more. The top end of my gears are great, but I wish I would rev it up more, but it is a 95Z to make it a little harder to do.
HO cams FTW!

cant wait till i get on lukes level this week, HO cams :]
I went on the level zero motorsports website and can't seem to find any cams for the LD9, just the ecotec. I'd love to pick up a set of cams that are more aggressive than the secret swap. Where can I find a set of the stage 2 level zero cams?
you need to email LZM about them.
trust me... they are available.
