I have a 2001 sunfire with a 2.4 5 speed
I want to put a stock 3400 out of a 02 venture iwth a 2.2 5 speed into the car, so I need to know what is needed for this swap, like motor mounts, wiring, the usual
do a search for 3400 swap look for posts started buy JO MX, SUNFIREGTP, or SHOFF just to name a few they will have the info you need i know some of it but its best you look it up from them so you know its right. SUNFIREGTP can make you the lower mount bracket so you can use the j body lower dogbone. tranny mounts and axels are same for 2.4 to 2.2 trans just swap the trans and your set, the upper mount uses a j body combined withe the grand am mount this is what i'm unsure of the years think its up to 98 but don't quote me on that
the wiring you will need the 3400 harness from the venture and splice it with the 2.4 harness

am I going to need to get the wiring harness from a 2.2 and have to change my ecu , or will the 2.4 harness work on the 2.2 tranny?
auto or manual? as long as its the same kind of trans it will work with the 2.4 or 2.2 trans
its a 5 speed already, so I want to keep that way (WAY MORE FUN!!!)
the other question I have is about the guages.... any info
2.4 tranny will NOT work.
I know the tranny won't work, but will the ecu work form the 2.4????

not even close
no it wont
you will need the PCM from the venture now if you program it with a stock impal program your gauges should work then you will have to get a hold of someone with HP tuners to remove the auto trans code
the only 2 sensors on your trans is reverse and VSS, i would have to check my notes but i think the VSS is the same plug for auto and manual even 3400s just its not in the same spot so it will have to be moved from the passenger side rear of the tranny on the venture to the driver side for the 5spd, when i did my harness for the trans i just had to move the VSS and add in the reverse sensor since on autos its in the big grey connecter
impala and venture for 02 both use the same PCM so you can have your venture PCM programmed at any GM dealer with an 02 impala 3400 program and your guages should run

so all I need to do is splice the 2.4 harness onto the 3.4 harness, given the right wiring diagrams, correct??
am I going to have to change the wiring harness from 2.4 to 2.2??? what am I looking at for wiring with the 2.2 tranny??? am I going to need the 2.2 pcm as well with the tranny?? this is the first time I have done this swap, so i wanna get my ducks all in a row before I start shooting!! lol
ok first off no other pcm will be needed but the venture one and as for the 2.2 wiring ? why would you need that?
The electrical for the 2.2 and 2.4 5 speed trannies is the exact same, so no, u wont need a 2.2 harness. Just your 2.4 and a 3400.
sweet guys, thanks!!!! cleared that up no problem. lol
now all I am going to have to do is find out a way to get rid of that auto tranny code from the 3400 pcm, but I suppose I should pick everything up first lol
HPT will be your friend for that, plus you will NEEED it since the car wont start due to VATS(Anti-theft). HPT can disable that aswell.
where do I get wiring diagrams???
get a book of both cars there is your diagrams or go to autozone.com and hpt is a tuner device or you can just go to www.gmtuners.com Ryan there has done many of mine and done an excelent job
HPT=HPTuners.
how much do you figure it would cost me to have PCM reprogrammed???
I read somewhere on this site about having to change the A/C unit, is this true?? if so, which one do i replace it with?
whcich wires will I need to splice into the 2.4 harness???
someone told me I was going to have to get the BCM from the venture/impala to make the guages work, is this true???
no you could piggy back the 2.4 ecu to ONLY RUN THE GAUGES but i think the only gauge is the tach and i heard that could be fixed with a tach adapter but im not shure. first search 3400 swap and readin, read the sticky theres alot of info already out there
