One of these days, if he's still willing, I am going to send an alternator to Brad so he can take it to the place that did his and have it re-built and powder coated black for me.

honestly, it depends on what paint you use.

polishing works on it too without a problem. only people I would even suggest either for would be the 2.2 LN2 guys as ours are right on the top.

Brad - I'm curious as to how the powder coating is holding up to it. and did they do it properly by sealing the inside of the casing?

Try chroming... It's been done before.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Heat makes no difference with Polished or Powdercoated Alts.

Either is fine, Ive had 2 ALTs Polished.

Agrred. Just keep in mind if you go the polished route it is going to require constant polishing to keep looking good. For that reason I would reccomend getting it powdercoated.

By the way I have seen Brad's alternator in person and it is amazing!

the powdercoating has held up outstanding on it and heat isnt an issue whatsoever, thing is... its only got about 5000 miles on it so the 'wear' really isnt a factor.

and j to envy- absolutely, anytime you are ready, im game.

here's a pic of mine...

Man I tried like hell to get the housing off one and ended up screwing up the shaft. Is there anyway to do it without a press?

^^^ honest to god man im not sure. i gave it to my dad who has been a mechanic for 30+ years and even HE didnt wanna mess with it after trying to get it apart. i dont recall the shaft being the issue though... i believe it had something to do with some connections inside being soldiered together with some he-man super sh!t that a normal soldiering iron couldnt even touch. i just said screw it and took it the place that rebuilt and powdercoated it. the the end it was the best thing to do.
