Looking to buy me a header... finaly. Looking at the 4-2-1 from DC Sports heard that it will sound raspier which i don't want. Im runnin' 2.25 from the cat with a Dragunfire muffler. It sound pretty damn good in my opinion and only sounds raspy when the motor is cold, after it sounds pretty beefy, at least for a 4 cylinder. I plan on getting a high flow cat and i'm debating on keep the exhaust at 2.25 or go to 2.5. Anyones sound raspy after putting on a header and doing basicly the set up i'm talking about doin'???

Toss a resinator on and you'll be fine.
Do you think keeping th cat would prevent it from being raspy?

Keeping the cat would be better than a straight pipe. The key to it sounding good is to use the longest resonator you can!

yea right off start up my car sound really loud and (im going to get just flamed on for this) almost like a v8 but then it warms up and sounds like a 4 banger again.

if you get the header, it will sound raspier no matter what, like it was mentioned before you need ATLEAST an 18" resonator to deter that unwated noise. Keeping a cat, high flow or not, is also essential for good sound.
I also had a problem with the flex pipe that comnes on the DC. it made a buzzing sound. I contacted Pilot who bought DC from AEM. They said that they have never heard of the problem. I did some searching on the net and found a few forums talking about the same problem with the DC header. They all said it was the cheap flex pipe. The accordian shape inside the flex pipe causes a buzzing sound. The solution was to cut out the flex pipe and put in a better one.
I contacted Pilot and all they wanted to do was have me send it in for a warranty claim, which I explained wouldnt help because it would still have the same problem. The guy gave me a number to a woman from AEM's warranty dept. This was one of the best customer service experiences of my life. even though they had no responsiblity for any kind of warranty since they sold DC to Pilot, she gave me a check for the cost of the flex pipe and the labor costs to install it.
AEM ftmfw.
the flex pipe i bought was a vibrant. I think it was about $35. it has the steel braiding on the inside of the pipe as well as outside. well worth it.
so before you install that header, look inside at the flex pipe. If its not braided, then buy a flex pipe and have a shop weld it in for you.
I removed the stock resonator when i had my current set up done and it doesn't sound raspy at all. But if i remember right resonators don't cause restriction or loss of power do they?

nothing that you would notice. the header will change the sound, and if you dont get a better flex pipe it will sound like a VW beetle.
Anyone got any other recomendations as far as headers? I'm not dead set on that specific one. I'm just kinda doin' the research, all you alls know how it goes.

people tell me my dc header sounds like a muscle car too... i do have a flowmaster muffler too though, so maybe that contributes lol
i like the way mine sounds, it does get raspy in higher rpms but thats becuase mine is all straight pipe. no cat/no resonator. im sure if you put either of those on the car it would sound great.
