ok im doing a 2.3 oil pump swap. my buddy scott told me today that thers a threaded hole thats missing on my block .
i haven't personally seen my block so i cant remember if it really isnt there or not. its been at his house and the machine shop. but either way he says its not there. am i missing something? the block i have is a 2000 ld9 auto. please ..any help is appreciated as i do not know what to do at this point. thanks
I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!
I pm'd you just now lol
Yea that hole has to be there because thats the hole for the stock balance shafts.. Have scott take a picture of it and post up.. Im almost 100% sure thats where the shafts bolt to.

Drill + tap = fixed either way?
here is the only pic i took before it went to the machine shop...i looked at the balance shaft in the garage..it doesnt seem to have a bolt hole there either..just has one on one side..i take a pic of that too if youd like..i circled the two sides on here...i was really confused looking at the pics in the instructions and looking at the block..i was almost SURE there was supposed to be a hole already there on each side...but there isnt a single one...and its not as simple as just drill +tap...if the drive gear isnt PERFECTLY lined up with the pump gear itll chew the pump to pieces in a VERY short time since the pump gear is fiber..so things really need to be right....any ideas??
Hmm that really doesn't show anything. I think this will be a RARE ass block if there is no hole there.

ok i think i got the answer i expected...looks like the 2000+ and maybe 99 ld9 blocks do NOT have the second hole...that hole will need to be drilled and tapped.
someone might want to update the 2.3 oil pump conversion with this info...or maybe i just over looked it while reading
you have to FIRST put the new drive gear on the crank and set the crank in the block..THEN put the pump on over the crank and line up the pump drive gears, after they are lined up you can mark and drill your hole.....if the gears are not lined up you WILL tear your oil pump apart and FAST.
thanks to SpeedRacerZ for the info and help !!
woo hoo. thanks speedracerz and whitecavy for helpin

Hmmm, I could of SWORE my 2002 block already had that hole because of the shafts.. Maybe my machine shop drilled that hole and I just didnt know about it
Oh well.. Glad it got sorted out.

failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Now that I'm thinkn about it, I do believe when I had my 2002 block apart and I bought the 2.3 pump, I myself screwed the pump on to make sure it would fit right.
I wish I still had my damn balance shafts to see how it bolts on the block.

exactly....I was wondering why you were wondering about lining up the gears....first tap in the gear on the crank. Thats odd for you block not to have the pair hole threaded on the other side....?
GMR has got nothing on this
