95 2.2 and a 01 2200 2.2 swaping heads ?

both ohv motors looking very much the same but will the head from the 01 work on the 95 block. the head gaskets are the same but the replacement bolts have different p#'s. or the rockers and push rods the same.

There are several differences between them, and you can not just smack the 2200 head onto a 2.2L, as you would find out if you tried. Plus, it will give you SUPER low compression.

thanks ,My machine shop guy just confirmed the silly super low compression also, I'll just pull the head on my 95 and get that one shaved. the engine info on these two motors show that the 95 has a 5hp advantage over the 01 anyways. thanks..

what if I stick 95 head on the 02 block. 13:1 comp 2200 (ka boom)

BASICALLY....YES, ITS SOMEWHERE IN THE 13-14:1 RANGE.

BUT THERE ARE SUBTLE DIFFERENCES....COLLANT PASSAGES ETC.

the head gaskets aren't the same there simillar but the coolent passages are different on them

yeah the 95-97 has 5 more hp but he 98-02 has 5 more ft lbs

push rods might be the same no idea for sur ebut the rockers are different the 98-02 has rollers where as the 95-97 does not

no much is the same on those engines

The big difference between the '94-'97 and the '98-up head gasket is that one end is blocked (Near the coolant outlet) to help direct coolant to aid head cooling, that's all. And then there's all that other stuff, like the manifolds & EGR hook-up.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Continuing on my last post here, I just checked my LN2 Rebuilder's Guide and according to it the '98-later engines used the same gasket that was used in the truck applications of the engine back through '94. GM got crafty & re-routed the coolant outlet on the head the same end as on the truck engine & just added an extention to the upper radiator hose. So using the 2nd-gen head with the 1st-gen block is okay, but you'll need that extention. And the later head gasket.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
