aright so the story goes i got a 95 sunfure gt with the 2.3 water in engine swapped for a 2.4 put the 2.3 head on bam headgasket out, ive asked around and they have told me there are holes need drilled out on the head from the gasket, my question is i have the 2.4 headgasket but there are only 2 holes that arent there from the 2.4 on the head but matching the 2.3 gasket to the 2.4 gasket then matching the 2.4 gasket to the head? if that makes any sense, but there are about 7 or 8 holes that arent in the 2.4 gasket from the 2.3 head.... is that what was being said about dremeling out??? im just rambling, please lemme know what i need to drill out as in EVERYTHING.... thanks for the help
Put a 2.4 head on it and dont worry about making the passages line up.
its a LD2 now... the 2.4 head wont work the best.
you can use a 90-94 thermo housing, just have to use some heater core adaptors for the heat, and for the thermo bypass. and put the thermo were it goes on a 086 head.

So the 2.4 was pulled back out and a 2.3 put back in?
IDN, he said he has a 95.... 95's were LD2's.

He said he put a 2.4 in it. I know that 95 came with a 2.3. Not sure why he went with a 2.4 and not a HO.
i put a 2.4 in it with the 2.3 head and i went with a 2.4 because its pretty hard to find one for a diecent price
i have the 456 also for no confusion, but what i have done is i have takin and matched the 2.3 gasket with the 2.4 then i put the 2.4 gasket on the head and matched the head with the gasket like i was told, i just didnt know what all i was suppose to drill out...
just put a 2.4 head on it and you dont have to worry about matching the parts, or over heating.
just firgure it out and stop playing games....lol....j/k
i figured er out, should find out if its a hit or miss next weekend
He explained it all in his other threat a week or so ago. He had a 2.3, came across a 2.4 for a good price, and wanted to keep the stock 2.3 intake and exhaust manifolds. Thats why he isnt using a 2.4 head. Hes on a budget and just trying to get it to run.
This will answer your questions...I told you to search 086.
Coolant passages
Scroll 2/3 of the way down and look for Brian's post.
son of a bit(h.... i belive i drilled the hole on top that he says is the effin water passage and on the other is oil... bloody hell im bout to just slam the 2.4 head on it and call it good, or go on a rampage for a ho.... oohh next time i will get answers befor i start anything....and thanks zs z sorry for bein a pain...
did you drill out the big round on in the front middle area?
just take it to a shop and have them weld it up...make sure they weld it shallow too so you dont have to get the head decked....$20.00...done
yes to the hole drilled in the middle part of the head, and i aready bolted it on with the new gaskets new headbolts timing on and mounts... i really dread taking it all the way back off replacing for the third time the gasket and the bolts, but if it needs to be done, i will have it sometime i suspect, i need to helacoil a couple holes for the cam towers anyhow
ok, my 086 head looks hella different from Brians. I don't even have some of the holes (ones he didn't drill out) but i have some extra holes in other places
DARK GREEN - These are all the holes i assume i am to drill out larger to match the LD9 gasket
BLACK - In Brian's picture his head gasket has holes here and it's a regular 2.4 gasket. my HG doesn't for some reason?
RED - I'm not entirely sure what to do with these as Brian never marked them out, AND my head doesn't even have holes there.
YELLOW - These holes in the gasket are slightly off placement comparied to Brian's, and much larger too.
I also have strange rectangular holes under the gasket that i will show tomorrow, i just forgot to take pictures while i had the chance.
Anyone want to help me with this one?
ok, Here is the head without the HG on it. notice the rectangular coolant holes? (I only assume they are coolant holes, someone please correct me if i'm wrong)
my head is exactly like that holes there then the water ports off par there is a small hole on the 2.3 gasket but there is the triangle right beside it basicly... i guess im just gonna yank er back off get the whole welded and slam it back on, only money right
Some pics for comparison
086 on top and 2.4 on bottom
086
2.4
On the 086 the blue marks are the locations on the 2.4 gasket that do not line up with the head. Same goes for the 2.4 head only with a 2.3 gasket. I didnt bother to mark the hole in the gasket for the PCV port on the 2.4 gasket. Hope this helps some.

you need to use the 2.3 gasket. but first, match the 2.3 head with a 2.4 gasket, then match the 2.3 gasket with your newly modded head and install the 2.3 gasket.
mitdr774 - That right there, is gold! thank you VERY much for clearing that up. at first i was thinking i had one of those "clearwater reman" heads. wicked, i will start on this soon. Gotta finish up my home brewed turbo mani first
....gotta love scrap steel.
gha i guess im not seein what i need lemme see
first match 2.4 gasket matched to the 2.3 head
second put head on and go??
im about confused as all hello...
i matched or so i thought the 2.4 to the 2.3 head but i did drill out the big hole on the top, and since it hasnt been fired now is it aright to reuse my headbolts and gasket this time???? im sure no but just a question, ive heard it will be aright...but gha, im half tempted to just make some custom block off plates for the egr and bolt the 2.4 head back on the damn thing.....
thanks for trying to clarify tho im just a newbie
