ecotec head removal - Performance Forum

ecotec head removal

ok quick question as to how to remove the head off a ecotec. ive already removed all the head bolts and such but what im running into is something by the timing chain area. its the only thing keeping it from coming off, what do i do from here?
o and the engine is still in the bay...not planing on taking it out just yet

i believe its the fixed timing chain guide thats not cooperating

there are two little bolts that are hard to see if the cam gears are still in, ill post a pic i got from alldata.




number 1 and 4



not sure if thats it but those two had me scratching my head for 10 minutes

go there and in the tech section under the L61 build book has a complete section on how to remove the head bolt by bolt.

there is a big like 23 mm bolt on the back left side of the timing chain tensioner, youll need to take that out and there are torx bits on the side of the head,block holding the timing chain guides in. Look in the gm performance build book it will show you all the pictures and procedure
