I am looking into doing a engine rebuild and am starting to look around to see what I can get for my car to give me some decent HP gains...I am wondering if anyone is running the stage 2 cams from JBP...it says they dynoed 22whp, I am suspecting thats the stage 2 cams and not the stage 1...wondering if anyone is running the stage 2 cams (or stage 1) and how do you find them...with the stage 2 I am curious to how the car still idles...if anyone could help me out that would be awsome.
car idles just fine with them....
paul tjepkes made 167whp with them and a ton of other stuff.
22whp? i dont think so...

Riddle me this... riddle me that...
I wouldn't mind saving up for their cams and cylinder head kit...if their gains are realistic it would be a decent upgrade...they claim 55whp for the 2 mods...but I have some more minor things to do before I do the engine over...the price does seem a little high...probably not many people using their stuff...
considering the fact that most ld9's dyno on average 145-160 with basic stuff done and the second highest record is like 171whp, the first being 259... with a lot of those 'average' cars having ported heads and a sleuth of different cams installed not making 200whp...
55whp from a head and cams on an ld9 N/A? nope, not happening.

I agree. There are people making more power with smaller and cheaper cams

screw that i want the w 41 cam i foune em new at autozone for 105$
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE, i have already died once and im still here so lets just leave it on the track
no f'n way thats happening, WAY to rare of cams to be in aftermarket re-production.
the company making them wouldn't stand to make JACK because of such little numbers of them ever made, way less now since a lot have gone to the junk yards.

Cross reference that part number with the 92-94 Beretta HO cams, you will be sorely surprised. I've gone down that path too many times before.... they don't exist. HO cams made by Melling and H-Tech are available as new replacements, but aftermarket W41 grinds do not exist unless you go with a custom cam from someone like Crane or Comp of the same grind.

Correct, this is because the RPO code for, what we all know as the "W41" is LG0, the same "LG0" as all quad-4 HO's.
"W41" stands for, Merchandised high output packed, thus, the W41 gear set, camshafts, and body trim for both N cars. (acheva\calais.)
Even when looking up the cams, the catalog says,Intake camshaft LG0, high output LG0/W41.
My cams came from a 1992 N body car. and cost A LOT.

wondering if a new tune is required when doing the "secret" cam swap (I have the GM tune for the m45)...I was looking around and found a post that someone saw 9whp after 5000rpm, but lost 3 ft/lbs tq down low...not sure if those gains are on a N/A or boosted...the JBP cams are quite a bit more money than the "secret" cams and I was comparing the two cams specs and they didn't seem too different to me, but then again, I don't know a whole lot about the cams...
the secret cams are basically a 'hey l@@k i have cams!' upgrade, but in all honesty, its hard to even notice a difference with even the butt dyno. if you do decide to go this route and want to get the MOST performance gain possible for doing this swap (oh god here we go again, chris) please make sure you buy a new exhaust cam (they are around $120 at most auto parts outlets) and new lifters for it and find a good 95 intake cam that has all the lobes measure the same across the board. just make sure you get the lifters that go with the cam you buy.
-the new stuff is just preference, its not needed... but if you want to make damn sure you did everything you could to get gains from these cams please do so.-
as far as i know nodody has dynoed their car before and after with the secret cams installed. and when i say before and after i mean on the SAME dyno the SAME day. swapped right there on the spot.
the main difference between the secrets and the stage 2's is a whole bunch of duration.

I haven't seen any before and after dyno sheets from people with JBP cams but i have seen dyno sheets from Johnny Mack from about 4 years back, he gained 36whp from HO cams vs stock cams.

I would love for someone to actually verify that. With peak power coming on at about 5900, I'm forced to call

. I can't imagine
ANY 4 cylinder could possibly be streetable with anywhere near that much duration at .050". Advertised duration...sure, but not @ .050". Hell, HG2 cams only have 226 @ .050" IIRC, and they have a MUCH higher rpm powerband than what JBP claims with theirs.
so u think the JBP stage 2 cams would be a little overkill...this is my daily driver so I don't redline it to work at 6 in the morning...I am thinking I may go with the secret cam swap, unless there are other cams that are a little more resonably priced than the JBP ones and give decent gains...if Johnny gained 36whp from the HO cams that would be awsome...I'd be happy with a 15whp with a different cams.
Or since its your DD just leave it alone and dont @!#$ with it. I dicked with my DD and as a result I purchased a new DD.

more info on this please...
were they swapped on the same dyno the same day?
the stage two cams are just fine for daily driving. they really arent as scary as they seem to be.
like brian said... doubtful they are really at the spec JBP claims anyways.

My goal is to have it 300hp...its technically my daily driver...I drive it to work because I rather drive my car than my truck...plus the car is a lot easier on gas..and I have an eagle talon at my parents place that is parked because my fiancee and I can only drive 1 vehicle at a time so no sense insuring 3 cars...I'll get the talon out when I put my car away for the winter...
36whp does seem like a lot to gain...I know my dad bought a neuspeed cam for his vw and I think it was supposed to give somewhere around 10-15hp (can't remember exactly)
You should keep in mind that any changes to the way your engine breathes (i.e. Cams, head, compression, manifold designs, etc.) won't net any significant gains without being tuned for that change. You would need to raise your rev limiter anyways to get a good powerband out of the HO cams.
i wanted these cams a while ago, couple ppl told me there not to great....but could be wrong, go to www.sportcompactonly.com, I havnt been on there in a long time, but the last time i was on there they had crane cams for the LD9.....go have a look.

soon to be supercharged, eibach sportlines, KYB AGX struts, 18" RTX poisons
