Exhaust leak from collector. HELP!

Ok, had the header installed today (pacesetter). But there is an exhaust leak. The guy at Lopers said it's coming from the collector. He said not to worry about it cause it's not very big, but when you gas the car it sounds like trash! High pitched noisy gross whistle sound. How can this be repaired????

Is it leaking from the collector itself, or the ball & socket joint?

You can try adjusting the spring bolts if it is from the socket, or weld if the collector....if it is new, I would send it back if it was from the collector....

Can you weld that ball and socket joint closed? I have the Bill and Stans and it leaks at the collecter. I heard you couldn't, but I'm tempted to just try it and see what happens.

The only reason you "cant" is because its supposed to be able to move. If you have solid motor mounts, then I dont see it being a problem. Mine is so tight (no springs, just bolts) that it never moves, but I have a flex pipe under the motor in the stock location (2200).

If the PART is leaking, send it back, or weld it up if you can.

If the JOINT is leaking, I would move it around till its closed and tighten the snot out of it.

you could if you welded in a FLEX somewhere else. Its probably from the downpipe, in this case, make sure the downpipe is lined up as straight as it can be, not to close to the fire, and not to far away from the firewall. Then make sure u have the springs almost (if not all way) compressed. the joint will allow it to move still. Mine sounded like BUTT when i first did it. Rechecked and retightened it all down and it sounds TITS now. Make sure that the headerd bold going into the block are all tight too. A good way to find a leak it too look for a black (carbon) trail.

Also, (op) did you weld the downpipe to the CAT!

Yeah, the guys at lopers welded it to the cat with a flex pipe....freaking cost 125 dollars for the flex!!! COuldnt do anything about it either cause they already ripped everything off. Bastards... Anyways, he told me it's coming from the collector where the pipes meet. Just a little hole. Im gonna call them up and see if i can go to their factory and if they can fix it or replace it.
