I really want to do the swap.
But I keep getting hung up on information,
I have a 1998 LN2(2200) motor with a 5-speed transmission.
I have located a few LD9's, but what else do I need?
I was told by one person that the tranny from my LN2 can be used with the LD9.
And then told that it won't work.
So do I need to locate a manual tranny FROM a LD9?
Or can I use the tranny already on my LN2?
I was told by one person that the mounts are the same for both motors,
While I read else where that the upper mount is different.
Can I use my stock gauge cluster with the LD9?
So whose done the swap?
What did you do?
What problems did you run into?

You will need a new tranny. The upper mount is the same, however the part that reaches to the engine is different. The gauge cluster can be used with either motor. I was going to do the swap, but now im parting everything out to get an 03+.
yes. ur going to need an isuzu tranny out of a 2.4 equipped car for the 2.4 motor. the trannys between the 2.2 and 2.4 are identical minus the housing, so it wont bolt to the motor. idk how much u know or not, but if ur swapping trannys anyway u might wanna look into an older getrag tranny. it will bolt right in with minor, extremely minor modifications.
and as far as the mounts go, im pretty sure they are different. but wait for someone else to chime in, im not 100% sure on that
Tghe mounts are the same, but the part that actually connects to the engine is different. The best thing to do, is buy a wrecked car with a good motor and transmission, so you will have everything you will need. Then, sell the rest of the car in parts to make some money back.

If you get a 96-99 2.4L with a 5 speed, it should be the Isuzu transmission... which has the same mounts as your 2.2L 5 speed transmission. However... if you get the newer 2.4L, 00-02 years... it will have the Getrag transmission attached to it... so you'd need to grind off the Isuzu rear trans mount, and weld in the Getrag rear mount (because they're different). You can modify the front transmission mount to accommodate the getrag trans though.
I'm swapping a 2.2L Eco w/ 5 speed Getrag trans (from an 04 Cav) into my 98 Cavalier, which had a 2.4L w/ 5 speed Isuzu trans. I am doing the modifications as I listed above... along with swapping all the electrical stuff in the car... dash, airbags, brake lines, etc.
just out of curiousity. why do all that work with the newer getrag when the old when is almost a direct bolt up?

$800 = 04 Ecotec w/ Getrag 5 speed with only 60,000 kms on it. Try and find me an old Getrag transmission that will last as long as this engine combo will
I know the 2.4L I had in there wouldn't go forever...
