Will the 2.3 oil pump swap improve power?

Has anyone proven that the 2.3 oil pump swap / balance shaft removal increases power?

why would an oil pump increase power?

it would free up some power since the removal of the balance shafts eliminates something like 11lbs. of rotating mass

well not the oil pump but the balance shaft removal. Cause that would free up some weight of the rotating assembly.

I was looking for maybe some dyno charts.

I dont think anyone took an other wise stock engine and did the swap just to dyno it. I did the swap so that I could have a a better oil pump.

peple do the swap to have a better oiling system for the 2.4

i will probably dyno mine this summer. mods will be oil pump swap, secret cams, intake, header, exhaust. everything else is stock.

well mine is close to stock again with 9.5:1 pistons, 97 head (brings CR up to the 9.7:1 range), pump swap, STans POS header, HO intake, 60mm TB, and .430/222 cams. I may dyno it or I may not. I really need to rebuild the bottom end again but just havent gotten around to it yet.

Hey Maken!
I have a great idea. You can come get my car and have it dynoed. Then bring it back to my house and pull my 2.4 and have it machined to fit the 2.3 oil pump. Then go get it dynoed again. I think that sounds like a wonderfull idea

well... you be the judge.

my car-57mm TB, rk 4-1 header/2.5" exhaust-HFC and magnaflow muffler, SS valves, secret exhaust cam, engine/tranny mounts, centerforce DF clutch and a homemade intake. everything else was stock and had 80K miles.

made 151.4whp

paul's car- well... this build was massive at the time, to much to list but im sure your familiar with it at least somewhat. i will point out the main attributes - 10.5:1 wiseco forged pistons, eagle rods, balanced rotating assembly and 2.3 OIL PUMP SWAP, JBP stage 2 cams, stans header/full exhaust, custom wai, HO intake manifold and TB... the list goes on...AS WELL AS A TUNE!

made 167whp

same dyno at the exact same place the exact same time of year only 4 years apart. same guy did both dyno's with the same exact equipment.

so did it help?

Rollin' on question marks since 07.

Removing the rotational mass alone has to help. How much, I do not know, but you are making the motor spin easier........Especially if everything else is balanced.

Removing the balance shafts on the 2.4L frees up horsepower. Then since you remove the balance shafts you have to do the 2.3L OIl pump swap which also is a better oiling system. So the oil pump swap doesnt free up horse power...the removal of balance shafts does. Its a win win

GMR has got nothing on this
