I can't find the post on HO and LO 2.3L and how to find out what type of motor you have, I know it is VIN but I forget where. Thanks.

VIN "A" = HO or W41
VIN "D" = LO

Is that all you needed?

The physical engines themselves are pretty much the same within a given year, with the exception that the HO motors use a larger plenum intake manifold and more agressive cam profile with higher lift and duration on both intake and exhaust cams which gives them that extra 20 HP. The larger plenum manifold has also been found on LO Grand Ams as well. The HO also only came in a closer gear ratio 5-speed transaxle (the w41's had a larger FDR to help with acceleration more).

were a few other differences..such as smaller crank pulleys, higher compression pistons, etc...the only differnce between the HO and the w41 was camshafts.....sleeper do you have a quad in your car? or are you just looking for parts?

Ya I have quad 4 LO know that I know what the difference is. I am looking for a performance upgrades for it and I have done all the main bolt ons such as clutch, mounts, CAI, and exhaust from manifold back with high flow cat. So I was just looking for info because I wondering if it was worth it to pull the engine and build it up with bottom end and cams and port and polish and such. Thanks

personally i think it depends on what your goals are...how fast do you want to go? how much power do you really wanna make?? since your even mentioning those things im sure youve already looked into how much they cost....sounds like youve already got some decent bolt ons, but the biggest thing i recomend for 1995 cavs with manual trannys is to pull the LO out and put the HO in..its a bolt up 30hp..40hp if you can find the w41 or even the cams from one....the transmission that comes with the HO is also an upgrade from what you have as well ..and maybe.if you have the cash, you can rebuild the HO more aggresivly ..personally the 95 LO isnt the best quad to be rebuilding...a sorry oil pump, it was the only quad that comes with balance shafts,etc....but its really up to you.....first and foremost i ask again...what are your goals with the car????

Ya I have been looking around at some junkyards and so on for an HO but no luck yet. I would love to go turbo because i have driven some before and I love the power that they make. So if I did build an engine it would be boosted, so that means lower end rebuild and forged pistons and a new stronger head ported and polished with a larger exhaust to get it out. Also yes I know how much parts are because I have put a tone of money in my car but i love it. I work at midas so I get cost on almost all parts so it helps out when I can install them all myself. So any good Ideas would be great. Thanks.
