Ok guys I used to own a 97 sunfire, but I sold it. So my sister has a 99 and its in pretty bad shape. So she bought a new car and want to sell it. I asked her about buying it and she will give it to me cheap, like a couple hundred bucks. So me and my father want to make it like an scca car. My question is whats the best way to go. I know on my 94 z34 I am doing an OBD II swap so that I can tune it with HP tuners. Is there anything like this that I should know about it. i am pretty familar with the motor, I did a clutch, fidanza flywheel, header, intakes exhasue on my other one. Should I go ahead and look into boosting it or should I just keep it NA. If boosting whats better, supercharger or turbo? Next for the suspension, whats best coilovers? We are looking for functional not show.

you relaize theres like a thousand different classes/event in the SCCA right? saying you want to build an SCCA car tells us nothing.
Actaully I had no idea. I knew there are different classes, just not more than 1000. Bust basically I just want to know the basics. whats the best suspensio set up, best motor set up, ect. I am just looking for imputs

without any info from you first your not getting any help.
you can't answer a smiple question of what are you trying to do? If you don't know what you want to do we can't help.
there is no car setup that is "best" for everything
Damn man you dont have to be such a @!#$in ass. I just want to know the differences between the different setups. Its not the hard to answer. I would like to know the pros and cons for a coil over set up and just doing spings and struts, ect. As far as the motor I want to know what would be a better route to go, NA, or boost. I am not asking hard questions.

if you want to know the pros and cons of coilover setups go in the suspension and brake forum and read the FAQ.
And yes I do have to be "such a @!#$in ass" you want help/advise on building a car to race when you can't even tell us what type of racing your trying to do.
Would you got to a doctor and tell him hey it hurts fix it? If you can't tell him what hurts hes gonna look at you like your crazzy.
If you want an ass comment...
Since your to @!#$ stupid to figure out what your even trying to do. Leave here and go to the scca site and figure out what you want to build a car for. After that go through the suspension forum read the FAQ/stickys, performance forum and read the FAQ/stickys, wheel and tire forum, racing forum, then when you have more stupid questions made a thread in the right forum asking about it.... (not the pros and cons of puting coilovers on your race car in the performance forum, if you could read it says "Discussions about performance modifications to j-body automobiles which do not involve any kind of forced induction or nitrous. Topics in any way related to turbo or supercharger should go in the Boost forum, and nitrous topics in the Nitrous Oxide forum.")
like I said if you want an ass comment you'll get one
Pick a class and build the car to the specs for that class. Its all laid out in the rules as to what can and cant be done.
this is the .org. if you ask a very general question or put it in the wrong forum you will hear about it. thats just how it is, deal with it.
darkstars is trying to say you need to pick a class to run in. then read the rules for that class. then come on here and read the stickies, faqs, blah etc
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Autocross isn't a class. Do you want to Run Solo I or Solo II? Great now that you have that out of the way which class do you want to run in?
If you picked Solo II there's no less than 4 classes you could run in depending on mods. One wrong mod could upclass you and you'd be uncompetitive.
If you do any internal work to the engine that is beyond a stock replacement you will probably end up in a very uncompetitive class. I have given up on ever being competitive in auto cross because the class I would be in is not one I can compete in.
Right now I want to get into autocrossing localy. Then I would like to move into scca. I have no idea what class I would want to be in. I know that we want to make it a fun track car. The main thing I am looking for is whats the best for this motor boost or NA? if someone can help me it would be awesome.

if your building a boosted car you'll be in SM at least... you wont stand a chance in SM, thats like highly modded EVO's and things liek that...
your best bet is to give it a tune up, replace bad parts and run it for a year stock, after a year of track time start modding it, your only gonna hurt your performance by jumping right in with a built boosted car
Put your money into suspension, add a few bolt-ons to the engine. Lighten the car as much as possible (gut interior, removing spare tire, radio, all unnecessary stuff), and be done with it.
^^ yeah don't listen to that guy, he has no idea what the rules are for classing the cars...

agreed.
my vote...actually attend a meet first. so many people on here try and stuff as much crap onto their cars, when most times you can be competitive with minimal parts, mediocre tires and good driving skills. when they tech your car, you will know what you can and cant have.
you can be competitive with a radio and speakers in a car. obviously dont carry a huge sub box, but some basic parts can be retained if wanted.
first you need to go to a meet, and try it out. you will learn as you go.
dont be gullible and buy a bunch of crap that will be near useless or not adept for your own personal driving style before you have even done a basic meet.
