The power steering would be the only thing needed to be modified to "ruin" the cam. You don't need a cam position sensor. Either run without it or just use the msd cam sync generator.

What about using the 2.2 Eco ignition module which generates a cam synch signal based on ignition secondary voltage as the cylinders fire?

^^^ I should have said the MSD Saturn cam sync Generator (although the generic one would work the same). You wrap it around the cylinder 4 spark wire and it generates a cam signal. But the sync isn't even necessary to run the engine. It will just run batch fire as all quads before it did (minus the auto 95's).

A guy on the Quad 4 forums had them for sale. As soon as I saw them I sent a PM. Figured if I build my motor I will need something better than HO cams.
I would rather have the sequential fire for my fuel than batch fire. I see it as a bit more efficient.

HO: .410" lift 212* duration
W41: .410" lift 218* duration
These: .430" lift 222* duration
They are a "rare" cam for the Quad 4 engines. From what I can tell and have found out from asking Crane Cams ground them form new blanks, so its not a regrind.

This is from what I have been able to gather.
The HG2 cams were made by Comp Cams. They were 224/.430. These ones are made by Crane Cams and are 222/.430. Also I have been told that the ramp on the Crane Cams is quicker than on the Comp Cams.

They are the Hot Grind 2 cams for a Quad motor. Designed to run on a stock engine, but a factory performance part. They are the "hottest' street cam for the Quads and a very nice find. Mfk-223 (Gillies) has them in his built quad.
"The regular W41 cams have 218* or duration and .410" of lift. The HG 1 have the same lift but with 226* of duration. My HG 2 have 430" of lift and 224* of duration. They are the biggest streetable cams for the 2.3." - Gillies
What all does your build entail? I hope to be doing a build with at least W41 cams next winter, after I get married.

As I stated before these are not the HG2's. very close but not the same.
Not 100% on all detalns just yet, but as of last plan (im still debating the build right now) it entailed:
92mm bore
94mm stroke
2.3L oil pump swap
12:1 CR
slightly ported 753 head
222/.430 cams
HO manifolds (untill I could get it to someone to build a header)
60mm TB (2.3 bored out to 60mm)

At low and mid rpm there is a slight improvement in emissions from using the sequential mode but many engine management systems switch to batch fire mode as rpm increases. In your case the idle speed will be well above stock and idle quality won't be anything like stock, so there's little chance you'll see much of an improvement in low speed emissions. it's possible there will be some improvement in idle quality but you might not want to kill yourself or one of those cams trying to force the engine to run in sequential mode when it's alread been proven those cams will run with a batch fire ecm.

im not concerned about emissions, more fuel. I dont see there being to big of an issue with idle quality. Cant be much worse than it is now and that isnt to bad. I have to have the PS drive altered anyway so the cam will be ruined for its origional use regardless. My computer is designed for sequential so I would like to keep it that way. That alone would help out with idle quality. I know these cams have been proven for batch fire, after all they were made for a batch fire engine.
The cam signal won't be an easy fix, and probably not cheap either. They have to weld material to the cam and then grind it. Ask Tod Miller about it, because he used to do it a couple years ago before we found out about the saturn cam sync.. Also, I believe the motor goes into batch fire around 2500-3000 rpms (someone please correct me if they know for sure), which is significantly below the power range of those cams. So like Slowolej said, it will really only help idle characteristics of the engine.

Todd did my HO cam back in 05, and I have already sent him a message about this one. To me the sync generator is just a half ass way of doing it. Also adds another thing to clutter the engine bay. I still dont see how batch fire will help idle charicteristics. You dont get a complete burn of the fuel.
how much does todd charge to do the cps pad?
