Oil Pump Swap Help - 2200

Ok, the more I search, the more confused I get. I have a 1998 Cavalier with a 2200 engine in it. I plan on doing a rebuild and heard about the oil pump swap. So my question is... The Pre-93 2.2L use the M98.

So I want to use that pump, the M98, instead of the M248 (Stock)?? So do i need to use the stock oil screen, or do I use the M98 screen. And finally, Do I need to change the drive gear, or the shaft with the rebuild if all looks good?

You use the pre 94 oil pump and screen. The 94+ screen will not fit the older pump. I have never heard of anyone needing to change the drive shaft when using the older pump.

And use a Wix filter, definately not a Fram since Fram filters tend to cause a loss of 5-10psi do to shell ballooning. It's true! Once I switched I saw the difference. Trust me, with the pressure you'll be pushing you don't want to take a chance. Get a Wix at least, or a K&N.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Why won't the newer screen work with the older style pump? I bought a screen for a '93 & it looks the same as the one in my '96 2.2 OHV?
