Aftermarket hi-volume oil pump for 2.2L?

Would adding an aftermarket hi-volume oil pump increase my oil pressure at idle?

After adding a manual guage, I discovered I've only got like 6 psi @ idle once the car is FULLY warmed up.

Who makes a decent aftermarket oil pump for the 2,2L ('96)?

Thanks.

melling. you have to go to a shop and look up the part numbers, but HP is high pressure, HV is high volume.

oil pressure is supposed to be low at idle.

unless you have the need for high volume or high pressure, you may be overadjusting.

You will likely have plenty of volume by using the pump and pickup for the pre-94 model. The pump has slightly taller gears and the pickup has a larger tube but they're not overkill like most aftermarket high volume units.

Part number for the pre-94 is M98.

So, the M98 pump will just bolt in my '96 Cavy or are there some mods to make it fit?

I don't want to over-do it, I just want a little more oil pressure at idle.

That's the pump I running in mine. No mods to make it fit, just bolt it on.

When I rebuilt my motor all the bearing clearances were on the loose side of spec. Almost three years later, my oil pressure hot is 12 psi at idle, 48psi crusing and max is about 60 psi under w.o.t. (4k+ rpm), using Mobile 1 synthetic 5W-30 in Florida summers with the A/C on.

That's what I'm looking for; not a huge increase - just a little more than what I've got now. I'll see if I can snag I used one. Great info. Thanks to everyone who responded!

Do yourself a favor and don't skimp on the pump, if you plan on keeping the car. Get a new pump and pick-up. The pumps are approximatly $56 and pickups are about $16. No matter how well you clean a used pump, there can be something in it still, or the pump gears or relief spring are worn.

Wow guys, I didn't know about the pickup part... If I ever get to installing one in my truck's tu-tu I'll remember that. Just hope it fits the pan okay. Hmm... I've been wondering about using said pump with 0w-30 Mobil in our app as to promote better bearing cooling with the increased volume delivered & better fuel economy as result of the thinner weight oil ran. Any fedback on that guys?

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
