Best muffler for 3" straight pipe..
Saturday, November 17, 2007 3:31 PM
Hey guys, i just got boosted and my exhaust is currently a 2.5" downpipe with a 3" straight pipe to the back, and its really loud, i want to buy a muffler that has a 3" inlet and a 3" outlet, prefer a dual 3" oulet. What brand muffler would be the best for my straight pipe it quiet it down ALOT?

I had magnaflows on my car before i got boosted and it made my exhaust louder, i was wondering if i get magnaflows now with the turbo, will it make my exhaust louder or quieter?

See the Magnaflow mufflers are straight thru, unlike flowmasters where they have chambers.. so if anyone has any ideas to help me out would be great!!

Thanks!

Magnaflo Bullit!!! It's what i've ran for a long time and love it. Sounds great in my opinion. If you're really interested in one, i have one sitting in my garage that has never been used. I sell it cheap if you want it.

I see, you are turbocharged? you have a 3" straight pipe? cuz i really wanna make it less loud, its way too loud right now and i cant really enjoy driving it cuz i worry about cops pulling me over.. yeah i used to have magnaflows and i loved them, but i dont know if they will make my exhaust quieter since now i have a 3" straight pipe with a turbo..

What brand is that extra muffler of yours and what model is it and do you have any pictures for it?

I might be interested =]

Thanks!

looks like its what ur lookin for, one of the quietest mufflers out there by far: Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler

i have one on my cav, sounds almost too quiet lol. its louder than stock, but not that much and has very little interior resonance. sound good at idle, and when you get on it it has a throaty tone to it. sounds good in my opinion, but i only have an intake and a header back 2.25" exhaust. with a turbo it may be a little different sound, but it will definately still quiet. if you want a quiet muffler thats the one to get.

Yes my car is turbo'd and it is 3" exhaust. I also have a 3" hi flo cat in there. My muffler basicly looks like a resonator. goto jegs.com and search for dynomax bullet. That's exactly what i have on my car and what i have sitting in my garage brand new waiting for someone to buy it.

Hmm how big is the diameter for the in and the out on your resonator? is that ALL you have on your exhaust? you have a cat but do you have a muffler or not? and that quiet it down alot? cuz its just a resonator and i dont wanna get it if its not gonna make that much of a difference.. How long is your resonator?

Thanks

Hmm Todd, is the resonator 3" straight through? like the inside of the resonator? cuz sometimes they have a 3" inlet and outlet, but the inside is only 2.5", you know what i mean?

It is 3" straight through... and it's not considered a resonator at all. It is a legal muffler. But it looks like a resonator for the most part. My car is not very loud at all. The turbo really quiets it down alot for the most part.

yo lefix how much did it cost total for all the @!#$ in ur turbo kit. and a real good muffler is magnaflow race series, its open flow.

Like about $5000-6000 for EVERYTHING in my turbo kit, considering the HPTuner was $700 and the standalone wideband was $400

So Todd you dont have a muffler in the very end of your pipe?

i have an ecotec cavalier with full exhaust and 2 1/2 pipes, and for my exhaust componets, i have a dynomax super turbo muffler at the end, and a glasspack. at first, i had full exhaust with the super turbo being the only muffler. it was loud and obnoxiuos, rattled. then i added a glasspack (pretty much the same thing as a bullet), sounds so much better, smooth and quiet at idle, loud and powerful at WOT. if i were you, i would use this muffler... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=WLK%2D17743&N=700+400358+300490+4294922711+4294906128+4294791977+4294791976+115&autoview=sku . you may find it cheaper at your local advanced auto parts. and use this glasspack.... http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_769108_-1 . this glasspack fits your needs perfectly. its an 18" case so it fits (any longer and it will not fit, my 18" glasspack barely fit before the over axle bends), and it will quiet it down much and give it a powerful turbo sound. i hope this helps, just thought i would jump out and give my two cents, maybe 3. =D

not sure whats been said yet but i would say go with a F-body exhaust (trans am/camaro) ... its a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets... I am running 3" turbo back ... no cat.... and 30" long resonator and its not loud at all... i actually get a lot of people thinking its stock (I am also using f-body tips that look exactly like sunfire GT just bigger) but its just a deeper sound and not to much louder.. And any good exhaust shop can do it. I just brought pictures to the shop (i can give you pics of mine which i know they will need if you want) and they said yep no problem and it took no longer then it did when i got a regular style Jbody exhaust and it actually doesn't stick down that far at all... you cant really see it from behind the car... well no more then you see it on a Fbody..

The First Twin Charged jbody
blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

Hey Josh, if you are boosted dont you want the exhaust to be as straight as possible?

I was thinking about doing that but wont that be way too restrictive for turbo exhaust?

I really miss my dual exhaust look thats why..
