Okay, just to get it out of the way. I know I'm a newb, a moron, an idiotic jackass who will probably need to spend more money than I would have, if I had done it right in the first place. Just wanted to let everybody know that I already know all that, so you don't need to mention it in the response, although feel free to.
Basically, my air filter is unoiled. It's a K&N variant. When I first installed the intake and put the filter on, I had no idea. It's been a month and a half of driving around without it oiled. My car seems to more sluggish than it was before, although it could just be my imagination. My question is this. Depending on how much dirt and crap I undoubtedly sucked up, would it just seize entirely, or could my sluggishness be caused by that. If so, I don't want to think about how fun this story will end up being.
Thanks...
P.S. I'm taking a different car to Autozone tomorrow and picking up a recharger kit. Figure better late than never. :\
are you burning oil?
if not do a leakdown test.
if you are not burning oill from dirt particles grindind away at @!#$, and no large dirt has f-d up a valve, I think ittle live and your problem is somehting else

when you beat someone in a civic people wine and make excuses
when you beat someone in a cavalier they pull over and check under thier hoods
Okay, thanks for the help. Also...Leakdown test?
The oil on a K&N filter actually helps keep the air flowing when the filter starts to get a little dirty. Your car is probably fine, you filter is just probably soo dirty that it's hindering performance. Just follow the instructions in the recharge kit and make sure you clean it really well.
you say its a "K&N variant"???
does this mean its a knock off?? if so its just a throw away filter.
I am under the understanding that the oil catches the dirt
at least thats the theory that makes sence

^^ it does help catch the dirt... but there is more to it than that.
An oiled finter needs to be cleaned less than an unoiled one.... I think the K&N website goes into detail about it.
You can use K&N oil and cleaner on pretty much any reusable high flow cotton filter. I use it on my Injen intake with no problems.
I would say your best bet is to put your stock airfilter assembly back on with a new filter and change your oil. This is a great forum and I have been reading it for some time now but many people should leave their cars alone because they are wrecking them. These same people who are wrecking their own cars are often the same folks who can not afford to fix them. Makes no sense to me.
That's not the spirit to have Jeff Daniels, seems kind of the opposite attitude to have. Encouraging learning would be more beneficial by far.
What I've been reading in the responses seems to lift my spirits a bit. I hope that you're right Weebel, because I love this car and would hate to have it out of commission for a while because of something stupid I did. Still going to clean and oil the filter ASAP.

Look, I know most people would get angry with this comment, but I'm not. I understand exactly where you're coming from. I'm going to keep the intake on my car though, and continue to add things to it to please me. I understand I messed this up, but if you look at my posting history, you'll see numerous posts where I asked for help, and peoples advice. I did not go into this blindly. I asked if there was anything else I should know before installing the intake, and I'm pretty sure it was never mentioned that I needed to oil the filter before I put it on.
Either way however, thanks for the help guys, and I'll be sure to do even more thorough searching and researching before installing something in the future so I can avoid stuff like this. I really want to learn about these cars, and cars in general, and I'm looking at this as a learning experience. Thank you for understanding my motivation kflo. And thank you everybody for all your responses.

I understand. Listen I wasn't picking on you directly, it is just lately I have been reading alot of posts where guys are not even able to drive their cars because they could not leave them alone. A few of them are driving their girlfriends cars now.
Anyway I was giving some good advice. You may have taken some miles off off your motor because of a tube with a dry filter stuck on the end which really didn't increase your horsepower anyway. And if you sucked some dirt in your motor you definitely want to change the oil and oil filter.
My first new car was a 90 cavalier , I sold that car with 200k miles and the only repairs I made were tires and brakes. That car still had the original clutch and worked well.
Anyway good luck and hope everything turns out well.
I know, and I can see where you're coming from. Thanks for the well wishes. Now let's just hope I didn't get any stuff in there. I figure when I take the filter off I'll just take a look around the general area and see if I can see anything. I'm going to get my oil changed soon anyways, so either way I'll get some clean stuff in there. Thanks again everybody.

incorrect. All oiled-cotton filament filters are essentially the same. K&N filters may or may not be of a little higher quality, but I'd say that makes very little difference. All oiled-cotton filament filters are cleanable, re-oilable, and re-usable. If fact one companies cleaning product or re-oiling product will work on another companies filter just fine - despite what those companies may tell you(to encourage you to continur buy THEIR products over their competition's products).
I've never heard of this "part throttle" before. Does it just bolt on?
Okay, so I'm both happy and embarrassed. I've got an RK Sport SRI. They come with S&B "High Performance Air Filters". According to S&B's website, the filters come preoiled. Thank Jesus, Buddha, or whoever one prays to. Apparently I'm an amateur at life, but this time it wasn't bad. Still makes me wonder why I'm feeling sluggish lately, but at least my engines not broken. I'm still going to clean/oil it tomorrow as it's got some nice hood liner rubbings on it from when I installed it incorrectly the first time. :\ Thanks again everybody.
