Exhaust Question
Saturday, September 15, 2007 1:42 AM
I currently have a flowmaster 40 muffler with a 2.25" catback (stock cat) with no resonator. I want to smooth out the exhaust sound and quiet it down just a little. I was thinking of putting a 29" cherrybomb glasspack as a resonator. Will this accomplish my goals of quieting down the exhaust a little while also smoothing out the tone (elminate popping, etc)?

TIA

Magnaflow also makes a high flow cat that works on our cars and it doesnt cost very much. (around the $50 range I think) I have one on my car.

Also cherry bombs are everywhere and you can usually pick one up for 20 to 35 bucks depending on the length.
Checkers/Schucks and Fleet Farm usually carry them in stock.

Your probably going to have a little poping no matter what you do but the setup your planning should work pretty good.

When and if you do it.... post before and after sound clips for us... we really cant have too many exaust cips for people to use as references....

There really should be a database of those vids on this site for people to use.

Hell I have a 30" cherrybomb glasspack on my car with a stans header and no cat, along with 2.25 piping to a dynomax st and I dont think its loud at all. I have a few small leaks so its a little raspy, but at first when I put everything on it was quiet and pretty deep, not raspy at all. Mine leaks now cause I have to retighten all my downpipe bolts.

The longer the glasspack you get, the quieter it will be. You should be able to squeeze a high flow cat and 29" glasspack under there.

Some of the guys over at www.bcjbody.net are saying that our cars would burn out the insulation in the cherrybomb in no time. Is this correct?

I havnt had any problems with mine and mines been on a few weeks. I ust finished welding it up in an area and iside it looked fine.

When I get some free time Im gona loosen all my downpipe bolts and use washers cause right now theres just bolts/nuts which move and loosen causing it to leak. The stans header is like a pacesetter as in it uses a ball and socket downpipe collector, except the stans has 2 being a 4-2-1 and there is 6 all together. I live in an aprtment so people get pissy when I pop my hood, and if I drive to a friends then I have to wait for everything to cool down to do it. I cant get a clip cause I dont have a digicam but someone may put one up for me lol.
