Hey all
Are the cold air intakes sold on epay any good? Some look ok, but the prices are real cheap. What do you guys think of these?

They often have fitment issues. most dont have IAT sensor holes. the filter is garbage.

1. you will need to spend money on a good filter (K&N) which is around $30.
2. the IAT sensor hole isnt a big deal....just drill a hole.
3. hope and pray it has the neccessary components to mount it and connect to the TB correctly.

you might get lucky but just be prepared to spend $200 on one thats reputable (after wasting $40 that is)

i bought mine on ebay for my 2.4L and although it wasnt a true CAI it worked fine. it is true that the filters are crap but it still worked fine and had all the necessary components for it

I figured that the price was too low. I wonder if putting a K&N filter into the standard airbox would make any performance changes?

Yeah, i got a Bomz racing intake system for my 96 Z24. all i did was buy a K&N filter and its perfect. i had no issues with fitment and it had the IAT sensor hole, and all the components needed to install. In my opinion it is just as good as a brand name intake system once I put the K&N filter on it. the difference is the quality of the product in terms of finish. In the intake system I got you could see the welding points very clearly, it had obviously not been sanded down before they painted it. So. if you care about the presentation of your engine then a brand new system is the way to go. As far as performance though, as long as you put a k&N filter it's basically the same.

I have one of the ebay intakes. I dont see why people bad mouth them. I got mine about a year ago when I first got my eco nothing wrong with it at all. came with all the mounting hardware, iat bung came with bung and was large enough. I hate when ppl complain about the bung not being big enough the pictures clearly show if they are big enough or not. Just look at the picture and you should be able to tell. and I didnt change the filter either but if you want get as much power out of your "intake performance system" as possible then spend 30 bucks on an air filter if you want... All preference.

not really...

i bought the filter for a while from K&N and it was alright... decent at best.

i bought an ebay intake... the wrong one came... i think i bought the wrong one by mistake....
sold that one (it was for the ecotec motor)

bought one for the OHV, it gave me a little worse get off the line power, but its SLIGHTLY noticeable at higher RPM's... the filter that came with it is alright... but im going to be getting a K&N replacement as soon as i can get some extra money.

its more of a short ram (the one i got) but its mainly the same as the rest. sensors all fit fine, no problems as of yet

The only thing i thought was bad is the 99 cent filter they give you. If you get one that fits....GREAT. you saved some money.

yea alot of stuff is "99" cents i guess by that you mean quality. go check out how much it cost to make a filter and then how much K & N charges you just because its a " K& N HIGH PERFORMANCE FILTER!!!!" not bashing you or anything but its just ashame how companies use a name to make money. an intake is an intake is an intake period. Now if Ebay ever started to sell Wideband Controllers yes in that case brand does come into play lol because I Would trust an Ebay Wideband Controller for @!#$..

I buy a lot from ebay. But you just have to be careful sometimes. A lot of times you buy something, they say plug n play, and it's not, and on top of that, no instructions. As far as intake is concerned though, I had to go with AEM cold air intake. It's true cold air because the filter sits right behind the fog light opening on the drivers side. I don't know if they make on for the 94 z24, but it's worth finding out. It does make a difference.

i got my intake off ebay. It was for a cavi but i used it on my sunfirebut still fit good never had a problem with it in the 2 years i've had it. Only thing i can say bad about it was the Filter they sent with it. Basicly they took screen door netting and made a filter out of it. You could see right through the damn thing.

the aem intakes look like they are legit. The seller has a good rating. If it were me i'd feel fine purchasing from whoever it is. Ask them some questions see why they are selling for less. Keep in mind that most ebayers like to make up for there price difference in the shipping 195 + 35 = 230.

I dont know how you can compare those junk filters to a K&N. yes they make it for pennies and sell them for $40. thats how companies make money. Its funny you mention electronics since they have the biggest markup of all products. byt he way, what kind of shoes are you wearing?? costs 1.50 to make some nike air and sell them for $150.

not bashing you either but a filter that has metal that rusts and cant be cleaned or reused is far inferior to a K&N that will last 100,000 miles.

I was just giving information on what COULD happen.....just a heads up. Im not gonna tell someone what to buy.

Im not wearing shoes right as I am in my dorm room

lol but yes there is a difference obviously obviously but I dont know about you but the price for the cleaning oil is just about the same price as a new ebay filter and i am still using my filter hasnt rusted yet. They do rust I will agree with you but only time I saw rust on my cone filter was on my 97 cav the 2nd year it was on the car..
