04 sunfire ecotec..

i read a guy saying that a variable length header will give you more of a rumble..

i coudlnt find much more info then that.

do they have to be custom made or does someone make them.

also anyone know if it hurts or helps or keeps the performance the same..

thanks

Do you want rice or do you want power?
Go test drive a sti, if you want to hear the difference

...and no. No one makes unequal length headers for our cars. You would have to have it custom fabbed.

... more power would be my preference... i was told it give a deeper resonance..

unfortunatly i would go drive one but i dont have that option..

so what your saying the variable length will hurt power but sound deeper..

and the same length headers will be more "ricey" but more power?

if i took that the right way..

hes saying buying a header for the noise it makes is a waste of time

No one would purposely make the runners on a header different lengths if they had any concept of engineering and what is good for making power on a motor.

A (large) variation in runner length causes different air fuel mixtures ranging from lean to rich across different cylinders based on different exhaust scavenging characteristics. This hurts power and in extreme conditions will kill your motor.

If you are seriously considering buying a header that hurts performance and engine like for the "sound" it makes........ well...... ill stop there.....

I have no bad experiences with unequal length headers. however, my experience was on a 92 mustang 5.0 and the shorties as they are called in the stang world are popular becouse even though they are not perfect for making power, they are a step above stock, easy to install, it is easier to work on the motor while they are installed, and after burning your 5th set of spark plug wires on equal length headers, you end up going back to shorties anyways and still end up being just as fast as you were before.

however, with the cavi, the exaust is coming off the back of the motor and the only time you should have to worry about the header is when removing the head. so I say do it right the first time and get some good equal length
