Just as it says how would i go about repining a 99ecu for a 97 wiring harness and engine. Iam not the greatest at wiring so if you could post picture that would be great.
Thank You,

97-98 knock sensor is a blue wire in pin 33 of the main computer plug , with the blue ends
move the blue from pin 33 to pin 34
add a wire to pin 32 which for a 99 would be a grey wire
"forgot to add" this should be the connector end for the 99 knock sensor GM part # 12102620

well did a vin # check show that the ecu was manufactured 10/26/98 would this mean it should just plug in a work on i would need to re pin it?
Just because the ECU was made on that date does not mean it is a 98 ECU. The ECU has to be made and then shipped to GM warehouse and make it to the line area to get put in a car (and I'm sure some other steps in between as well). Is this the eCU currently in the car, or one you are about to put in? I would say put it in get the car running. If you get no knock sensor reading the ECU will throw a code. Then you will know. Take it for a easy drive put it in 5 gear at a low RPM and start to accelerate you should get some knock retard.
FU Tuning
was in there for about a day and yes i get a code for no knock sensor.
new cars for the next year are usually out in sept , meaning that 10-98 pcm would have been for a 99 , had it been the factory installed pcm
a service pcm the date wouldnt matter
and instead of running a new wire (and buying a pin from GM), grab a wire from the no longer used EGR and move it over to the Pin 32 spot....... then go up buy the EGR connector and lengthen the wire (or just pull it out of the loom) to where ever your putting you knock sensor.

im having almost the same problem but backwards. i have a '99 engine with a '97 ecu. guess this wouldnt work for me?
if not should i just get a '99 ecu, is there any other changes with the wireing if i get a '99 ecu?
you can dril and tap the block to the larger size 98-older knock sensor
or do the above to add the 99 pcm

are you saying that i can repin my 97 pcm for the 99 knock?
will i have to do any kind of special computer side work or will it just work with it repinned?
no , im saying you can take the 99 knock sensor off the motor and drill and tap the block for the 97 knock sensor
or you can repin the pcm and use a 99 pcm or have the pcm reprogramed with a 99 vin
the 97 pcm will not function properly with a 99 knock sensor , unless its program is changed to a 99

actually to put a 99 sensor in a 97 block you have to weld a nut over the oversized 97 hole. it will work u can trust me i did mine 2k ago and no problems excellent performance. i think it has more pep to the step than it did in the 97.
i actually used a different location in the 98 older block , that was in a similar position/distance to the stock location
im having trouble finding where the 34 and 32 spots on the connector.
is there a certain way to read the way they are laid out?
and im thinking its the blue connector right?
... never mind
fyi, there is a plastic shield over the tops of the plugs and behind that they are all numbered...duh
ok. installed the '99 ecu and wired up the knock.... car doesnt run now, it turns over for a second then dies
is there a difference between 2.2 and 2.4 ecus?
or is there a way to decode the numbers on the side of the ecu to make sure i have the right one?
do the passlock 'thing' lol
start it up and after it dies... leave the key on the 'on' position for about 10 mins, should cure it.
