The 3.1 swap wouldnt be very worthwhile. If you've got a 2.2/2200 you're looking at a 20-25hp gain from it. If you've got a 2.4 then you're looking at a 10hp loss from swapping it.

If you're gonna go to a V6 look for the 00+ 3100 or the 3400 v6.

3.1? No. 3100? Eh...if you got the stuff cheap enough. 3400/3500 FTW.

Definitely go for an 00+ motor. You will have a much better platform to build off. There are no turbo kits that I know of, especially for the 3rd Gen J with a V6 because, well, there are only a handful of us with them thanks to GM not offering them after 94.

You don't need a kit for a turbo. Just weld a flange onto the rear exhaust manifold, and run some piping out to an intercooler. The price you'll pay for picking up a salvage manifold and paying someone to weld the flange on will be far less than a kit would cost. You can pick up turbo's by themselves very cheap used or remanufactured. You should do the motor swap, get the thing running and driving properly, then pick up your turbo. Get under the car and plan how you're going to do it and go to town.

Hey Shawn,

If one were to go with the exhaust manifold setup from the new 3500 that I was telling you about.... you could weld on 2 flanges and run twin turbo's . A couple of CT26's would probably work out not to bad. (not sure, just a guess on the turbo)

I already thought about that. I've thought for a long time of doing a twin turbo setup on the V6. If you look back at Rob's post over two years ago, when he first posted the pictures of the engine in place, I asked him how much room was in front, to see if a turbo would fit there.

Unfortunately, I don't think the 3500 manifold will fit the front without some major mods. There is not much room up front unless I move the radiator forward.
I may be able to pull it off by putting a pusher fan in front of it, but either way, I'm now taking up IC space.

I actually was looking at the twin setup and thinking that using the 3100/3400 manifolds and taking out the crossover, one turbo could probably be mounted over the tranny like the old 3.1 TGP setup, then the other could be mounted off the rear manifold like normal. This wouldn't require any modding regarding radiator placement either, so I could put a nice big IC in there.

Wow, welcome to the world of the J-body. Wont be doing anywhere near as much damage to axles as I would to transmissions under a twin turbo v6. This isn't a Honda board...... here we snap the transmission first.
