i just got a spare head and tb (thanks daniel) and i was wondering if i should take the tb and port it open a bit more. i wont be doing this of course but will take it to a local shop. im doing a turbo build so i figure opening it up a lil bit more cant hurt. i was thinking around 59mm... what do you all think? and is there anything i need to be sure to tell them?
On an n/a motor I have a 56mm tb and it helps a bit. 59 for boost should be a good upgrade, so long as it goes into the manifold smoothly, you might want to open the throat o the manifold as well.
how do you port plastic? i figure trying to port the intake manifold would cause it to burn up and melt.
I used a dremel and went slowly with it, I had a metal wheel that looked like a gear that was for cutting, i used that first and took off some plastic, then to make it smooth, I used 2 grades (a rough and a fine) of scouring pad type material and smoothed it all together, I also portmatched it to my ported head. Im still waiting to install it, but it looks good and the inside of it is all smooth where I worked on it
It did start to smoke and melt a bit when i pressed too hard with the finishing bits, but if you press lightly and go slow, you should be fine.
or you could buy an intake manifold.
When you port th TB, dont you need a new butterfly or whatever you call it that opens in the TB?? I was thinking about doing it to mine but need some info first. I think the car would'nt idle right if you didn't have the right size.
