Ok, I'm new to the j-body, just got this 96 sunfire for 500 bucks from my sister. It has a knock in the motor. My question is, can I swap a 3.4 grand-am motor into thiis car? What does is take? Cost? Any suggestions? BTW the car is an auto. It will be street driven, but also taken to the street leagal drags as often as possible.
Thanks for any info, Great site too!
Thanks for the link, but what about a list of parts I need? Mounts? Engine, trans. 5spd or auto? Harness? Driveshafts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
A.J.
i say if your going to the pain of a 3.4 than why not just go to a 3800 its about the same work
Adam, less work. 3800 requires a custom subframe, 3400 doesn't.

Correction... nowhere near as hard or expensive to put in the 3400. The 3400 has 180hp the 3800 has 190, and it's a lot heavier. Now, if you get ahold of an L67 (3800 s/c) that will be good but still way harder, more expensive, and heavier.
Lets not forget the most important part. The 3800 is a 90 degree V6 and the 3400 is a 60 degree. What's this mean? The 3800 is an odd-fire engine, which increases the ammount of vibration that you get. My 3400 feels better than the stock engine did, and drives totally smooth. You dont even notice that it has been swapped to quite a bit larger of an engine until you put your foot down into the go pedal.
