HELP ASAP
Saturday, July 07, 2007 5:57 PM
First off im a dumbass so don't remind me. I did a burnout and i think something in the drivetrain broke. i put one side of the car on jackstands and i can spin the front left tire, while the front right tire sits still, but if i go slow enough the front right side will grab and spin. Does anyone know what is wrong? any ideas on a price to fix it?

Thank you

if you grab one wheel while both air in the air and turn it, the other one will turn in the oppisite direction.

now if one tire is on the ground and the other is in the air. the one in the air wont move.

If one is on ground the one in the air moves.
passenger side makes a squeeling noise
both in air both spin in same diretion, if you move one wheel fast, the other wheel can't keep up.

Put both in the air, engine off, turn one, the other should spin oppositely (if a manual, if auto the other one may turn oppositely, go same direction, or do nothing. Thats cuz in a manual the engine is holding the diff still while its in gear). One on ground and one in air, the one in air SHOULD spin. Both in air engine running, both MAY spin, but you ought to be able to grab one and the other should speed up.
Unless that squeaking noise is coming from inside the trans, that noise isn't your diff. Possibly just the brakes rubbing, or a hub bearing going out.

BTW, this belongs in either transmission or maintenance, this forum is for performance. Thought you should know.

I put the car on the ground and said screw it and just started driving. Everything is normal except when you accelerate around a turn. If I take the turn in neutral everything is normal. When I take the turn in 1st or 2nd gear you can hear a squeeling noise. When I take a turn in 4th gear you can't hear the noise. I hope this info helps and someone can tell me whats wrong. I am going to college in a month and the car is not coming with me so if it is an expensive part I prolly wont fix it until I come back. I might take it too a shop to see if they can tell me whats wrong without charging me.
Thanks guys I appreciate your help.

Take the passenger wheel off and spin the rotor by hand. Does it make the noise at the rotor, or inboard more toward the trans?

inboard more by the trans.

sounds to me like you have a trans rebuild coming up. take it to a trans shop.

but the car shifts fine and it goes into every gear with no problem. It only makes a noise when turning while accelerating.
